  • Episode 25: The Mark Rossano Interview

David interviews Mark Rossano, a longtime financial industry veteran and renowned expert on global financial markets and supply chain analysis. As Founder and CEO of C6 Capital Holdings LLC., he provides investment and consulting services to clients across multiple sectors with a pronounced focus on global product flows.

Mark’s deep-dive supply chain expertise is in high demand –  he serves as a consulting executive to several international businesses, is an equity partner in several others, and – following on several years as Bloomberg’s Energy Industry Analyst – is now a frequent contributor to Bloomberg TV.

That expertise and deep-dive knowledge was crafted over a long period of time across a variety of more recent roles ranging from Senior Energy Analyst and Macro-Economist positions at Elevation, Candlewood Investment Group, and South Ferry Capital Management, to his formative experiences as a Portfolio Manager at FNY Capital and Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he managed an eight-person team focused on developing a global trade platform to invest in rates, foreign exchange, commodities, and equities.

Mark received his bachelor's degree in economics from Loyola College and his MBA in Finance from Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management. During that time, he was a founding member of Syracuse's Net Impact organization - an international nonprofit that focuses on building businesses with socially and environmentally sustainable processes.

We talk wind.  Solar.  Nuclear power.  Nuclear advocacy. Why rare earth minerals aren’t rare.  Electricity prices in Germany and California.  The future of oil and gas and the talent in oil and gas companies and answer – why is the fossil fuel industry in the US so unloved…. The answer both will but mostly won’t surprise you.

I’m always excited about “the best episode ever” but this one is pretty worth the listen.

  • Episode 17: #hottakeover your commute

We talk fashion (because really, who better to talk fashion than a guy with gold tipped slippers), production growth (and why companies keep announcing they are growing), motivations behind movements and why if you are anti-frac, you are anti-American.

DRW Shoe collection (mom, you jealous?)

Highlights (can we call it that?) from quarterly earnings this week:

ECA: strong hedge book, growing oil 4%

    XEC: 6-13% oil growth

    PXD: 10% growth in oil from 220 mbo/d to 235-245 mbo/d

SM: oil growth of 5-10% on capex down 20%

Parsley: closed Jagged post end-of-year so looks flattish comp-wise (yay!... someone understands supply demand)

Concho: 10-12% oil growth on capex down 10%.... we talk about their SMOG from the 10-K.  9,583 MM; debt of 3,955 MM…. 202 mm shares outstanding…. I’ll let you do the math.

    Diamondback: 187 mbo/d this year to 210 midpoint next year, 12% growth….

Next time someone tells you they are anti-frac, don’t engage in a policy debate that they can’t understand anyway (casing, cement, gauges, containment, depths of zone vs. drinking water, energy poverty, and an actual article describing the consequences -see Forbes, The Arithmetic of Fracking), just say- “I get it…. you are anti-frac because you are anti-America….”
