Shirley-Diane sees her teenage son, Soren, as a painful reminder of her past. Her ex-con boyfriend, Billy, sees Soren as a reflection of his own childhood. As Billy tries to help the troubled boy, the dysfunction of hard-core addiction and manipulation blur the lines of control and love between the three. The Dead Eye Boy playwright, Angus MacLachlan is the award-winning screenwriter of the critically acclaimed film Junebug.

Feeling lost in the shadows of marriage and forgotten by society, two London housewives pool their savings to rent a villa in Italy for a ladies-only holiday away, reluctantly recruiting a pair of difficult upper-class women to share the cost. The women clash, bond and bloom until the men once again upset the balance. A charming and romantic comedy of manners.

Legendary Hollywood producer David O. Selznick has a problem. He has just fired the director of Gone with the Wind and the script is on its umpteenth version. He desperately needs a new director and writer—immediately. However, the writer he wants, Ben Hecht, has never read the novel. Selznick also calls in director Victor Fleming, pulling him from finishing The Wizard of Oz to be the new director of Gone with the Wind. Selznick locks the three of them in his office for five days, with bananas and peanuts as their only food, to pull together a new script. Selznick and Fleming act out all the characters in the novel while Hecht types but, soon, fatigue, hunger, and sarcasm prevail. Tempers flare and hilarity ensues! A fun, farcical look at the behind-the-scene birth of one of the most beloved films of all time.

It was my great pleasure to interview Trevor Cone, Malinda Beckam, Curtis Barber and Ron Jones about Dirt Dogs Theatre Company and to talk about their current production of "White Guy on the Bus" by Bruce Graham. It is the regional premiere of this play:
Not everything is black and white. Moral boundaries are crossed and motivations of money, justice, and revenge lead to unexpected turns in White Guy on the Bus by Bruce Graham. A wealthy white businessman befriends a struggling black mother on a city bus and challenges her integrity. Just how far will each go to claim their power?

THE CAST:
Crystal Rae portrays Shatique, a nursing student and single mom trying to make a better life for her 9-year-old son. Crystal is an actor and playwright who received her BFA in theatre from ACU Theatre - Abilene Christian University. Her one-woman show, Lions, just played in Chicago at the Prop Thtr Yippie Festival and recently won the Houston Play on Purpose - HPOP Showcase of Shorts! This is Crystal’s first performance with Dirt Dogs and you'll definitely want to witness it!
Olivia Swasey portrays Molly, who is married to Christopher. Molly is a guidance counselor at a suburban private school and has a passionate desire to see her students succeed. Olivia is currently a second year acting student at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. She is also an experienced voiceover talent working in anime. Like several of her cast-mates, Olivia is making her Dirt Dogs debut. Get your tickets now to see this young talent's bold performance!
Dayne Lathrop portrays Christopher, who as a young boy endeared himself to his neighbors, Ray and Roz, as a sort of surrogate son. Dayne has a bit in common with his onstage persona: he’s often endearing himself to theatre audiences, as well as to the patrons at Bacco Wine & Spirits where he works as a bartender and creates unique craft cocktails. In addition, Dayne is a teaching artist in the Staging STEM and the Play Makers programs at Alley Theatre. We’re delighted to have this talented performer make his debut on the Dirt Dogs stage!
Elizabeth Byrd Shipsey (“Byrdie”) portrays Roz, the logical yet passionate wife to financier Ray. In real life, Byrdie is a choir director for middle and high school students at Westbury Christian School / Westbury Christian Fine Arts, as well as a member of The Church of St. John the Divine. She recently returned to Houston where she is a veteran stage actor and is represented by Pastorini Bosby Talent Agency. She is well-known to Houston audiences, but is new to the Dirt Dogs family, so please join us in welcoming Byrdie as she makes her DDTCo. debut!
Kevin Daugherty portrays Ray, a white, wealthy investment banker who befriends a single, black mom on a city bus. Kevin is a dedicated actor who works the early morning shift at Starbucks, builds sets for theatres such as Island ETC (east-end theatre company), and then travels from Galveston to Houston for rehearsal nearly every day. He is a formidable talent who has previously graced our stage in powerful performances—from a gritty cop in A Steady Rain to a shock-jock in Talk Radio. Dirt Dogs is excited to have Kevin back to open our fourth season!

Please join me as I talk to Vince, Laura and Kelly (founding members of Wildwood Theatre) as they discuss their new theater company and their currently running show, "The Cover of Life":
Tood, Weetsie, and Sybill are brides in rural Louisiana in 1943. Each married a Cliffert brother. The men are off to war and a local news story about these young wives keeping the home fires burning intrigues Henry Luce. He decides that they belong on the cover of Life Magazine and assigns Kate Miller to the story. She has been covering the war in Europe and, though she views doing a "women's piece" as a career set-back, she accepts because it will be her first cover story. Kate spends a week with the Cliffert women and her haughty urban attitude gives way to sympathy as she begins to understand them while coming face-to-face with her own powerlessness in a man's world. Filled with charm and fun, The Cover of Life is a deeply affecting story about the struggle for self worth.

Please join me in welcoming Luke Longacre and Chelsea Ryan McCurdy as they discuss their current show up at Stages Theatre - "The Doyle and Debbie Show" written by by Bruce Arntson.
July 12 – September 8, 2019
After failed marriages and tabloid scandals Doyle Mayfield recruits a new singing partner – also his third Debbie – in an attempt to regain his former stardom. But when Debbie’s star starts to rise, the comeback becomes a setback for this has-been legend. Featuring original songs – “When You’re Screwin’ Other Women (Think of Me),” “Barefoot and Pregnant,” and “ABCs of Love”, this brilliant parody is a hysterical tribute to country music and its beloved iconic duos.

The Mission of the Sankofa Collective is to:
Sankofa (noun) - It expresses the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress. It is about remembering the past in order to protect and create a promising future.
We hope to do that with our theatrical expression: re-ignite the passion to create lasting theatrical memories by building upon those who came before us and create room for so many artists (young and old) to secure promising futures in the arts.
We are The Sankofa Collective. Still exposing, educating and enriching. Still in Houston. Only this time, looking backward as we move forward. Onward to upward!
The Sankofa Collective (formally known as The Bayou Theatre Company; BTC) is a Texas non-profit organization established to utilize the performing arts as an outreach and entertainment source to the underserved population of the Greater Houston community and beyond.
Founded by three young performers, (Alric Davis, Trey Morgan Lewis, and Yesha Benjamin), the Sankofa Collective will serve as a pre-professional avenue of creative expression and artistic development for at-risk youth. The programs offered will provide a positive alternative to otherwise negative activities and associations.
