Lets make no mistake folks, suicide is a national problem that needs to be addressed. For the Veteran community, we have seen our brothers and sisters attempt and succeed, but we can work to find ways to help those that are struggling. For those of you that want to help Dan keep moving down the road, you can donate to his movement, helping him to continue to reach others that are struggling.

Dan has been making a lot of friends, traveled a lot of miles and helped many people over the last two months. From right here in Stillwater, OK to Tulsa and Depew, OK at the "Oak Lake Trails Naturist Park", where Dan decided that he had been wearing clothes for too long and joined the rest of the "free" people. I'll let Dan talk about it!! 

For those of you that have spent any amount of time on a bike, the wear and tear that you accumulate mile after mile, all day long, really beats up the body. If you want to donate to OPAAT Movement to provide massages, cryotherapy and a much needed realignment. Every bit of effort that we can give him will help him continue to put be out there for those struggling.

Dr. Matt Green assumes co-hosting duties today and talks about the life and times that made him what he is today. Veterans tend to have "something" that drove them to the military, a sense of adventure, structure, college, fight, serve something bigger than yourself and the proud list goes on. For Matt, it wasn't that simple, it would take a culmination of life to get him to that point, but when he got there he was still in uncharted waters.

Coming from the poor mountains of North Carolina, Matt didn't have much in the way of adult guidance at a young age, but he was identified early as being naturally gifted. He had some great people along the way who defined him and took care in getting him to new levels. From starting college at UNC-Chapel Hill at 16 to leaving and joining the Army at 18, Matt has challenged himself with an intrinsic drive to achieve the goals he sets before himself and to face the challenges that life adds to the mix. 

Richard Rowland's "Just For Today" segment no.6 is included today and what a great message that fit the episode perfectly. Richard reminds us that carrying ill will towards someone is burdensome, let it go and give forgiveness. When you do that, well, you gain a friend. Give it a try, might be pleasantly surprised what you find.

Matt has advice for those looking to make changes, get make into school or just engaging resources and hobbies to help bring balance to a Veterans and others lives. Don't miss this episode folks, Matt has a huge brain with his 32 degrees, but a huge heart to go along with it.

Seth Rodenbaugh joins the podcast for the second time, Saga Ep. 029, to talk about his upcoming bout at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Golden, CO on January 24th, 2020. Seth fights MMA and Boxing, this bout is boxing, so we talked about his preparation, especially as he is about to turn 40 years old this year. We talk about some of the fights leading up to this fight, the reason behind choosing to fight at this age and where he fits into the 138lb division. Plenty of stories mixed into this episode, Seth paints a picture that is easy to see, so it works well here.

Christie Douglas assumes co-hosting duties for the second time on the podcast and she brings the goods again. Not only was Christie the first female Veteran to come on, she still is! We talked about why that is and hopefully the hesitance will wear off in the future. Christie joined the Army as a 88K - Water Craft Operator in 2000 and after 20 yrs the stories are still rich and fun to hear about. For those of us that had no contact with Army Boat Crews this is a new world of knowledge. Christie walks us through her time in Puerto Rico, Kuwait and up and down the Persian Gulf delivering essential goods and equipment to forward staging areas and into the hands of those that require it. It takes an Army to lean forward and the be the baddest on earth, it takes boats!

Overcoming extraordinary situations during service is what Veterans do, however, our female service members and Veterans deal with not only the fear of death, but military sexual trauma. I have learned that there are very few female Veterans that have not been a victim of military sexual assault and/or trauma. Christie is committed to the Veteran community and especially to the female Veteran community, hoping that more female Veterans share the way ahead on the podcast or in another area to bring solutions and a way ahead. Don't close your ears, eyes and minds to this issue, we don't deserve the glory as individuals.

Christie has been engaging the Veteran community since she has been here at Oklahoma State University, working with the Student Veterans of America to help build the Veteran student community here. Her advice is to get into school and tackle like you did all the other challenges during service, she has very sound advice for sure.

Luke Davis assumes co-hosting duties for the second time and what a great conversation we had. For those that have not listened to Saga Ep.024 with Luke, I highly suggest going back and listening to it, before or after. A very detailed episode, its number three on the top-10 also. This episode Luke updates us on the changes that have occurred since he was on in August. He went from truck driving and being away from his kids to the police academy and having some much needed family time and flexibility back into his life. Luke covers some really good ground in regards to the experiences during his time in the academy and he also lets us into the reason why this change was so needed. Sean Hess, Saga Ep.016, got Luke thinking and he reached out to Sean and they got a chance to talk. As Luke says, use the network of Veterans out there, it works. 

Richard Rowland leaves us with a thought to ponder in his "Just For Today" segment. Remember, yesterday has been written, tomorrow is a blank page. Be alert to what you're putting into your work. Use a sharp pencil too!

For you Netflix folks out there, Luke and I discussed the documentary "Game Changers" and how he is conducting an experiment on himself to see if his diet is the culprit in some digestive issues he's been having. He hit up the VA for some blood work and X-rays, so when he gets that info back he will share the differences during this time where he focuses on only "Plant-based Protein" for his dietary needs. I'm excited to hear how it goes, I've been cleaning up my diet for the better part of a year now, but I still have a long way to go.

Devon Walker joined the podcast as co-host today to talk about his Christmas and holiday traditions. With two daughters, Devon has his work cut out for him, but he bought them compound bows for Christmas and is working on getting them in the field. The skills and patience that comes with archery is something that they both will be able to fall back on later in life. For Devon's family, like a great many out there, hunting is a family tradition and one that develops each generation in animal conservation and appreciation. So they are off for a family hunt at their place and getting his daughters involved with an insulated/heated ground blind. Good way to start em' out. Looking forward to hearing and seeing the many great things that happen in the future, much like Devon's upcoming wedding to his fiancé Codi. Expect Devon back on for his Saga Episode and to talk about joining a softball league this spring, getting outdoors and staying active.

"Ranger" Tom Flaherty co-hosted for the first time on the podcast today. Tom entered the Army as an Infantryman (11B), dug his bones in 1st Ranger Battalion and after becoming a Warrant Officer, Tom pilots Chinooks. Tom and I crossed paths as Ranger Instructors and we stayed in touch over the years. Tom had a hunting trip planned and was hoping to have some details to share when he got back. Well, I'm glad to report that he does and a lot more (Listen to the episode). Tom's family enjoys the fried turkey, so Tom talks about his technique and what the spread will look like there, to include his wife pumpkin pie. To wrap things up, Tom spoke briefly about the land his wife and he purchased. Tom is going to come on and talk about the down and dirty of getting a plot of land ready for an amazing hunt.

Think about those that are not able to be with their families, those deployed and in harms way, and give them a few words at and wishes at your table this year. Believe me, they'd be right there if they could. Everyone have an amazing Thanksgiving, safe travels and many blessings.

"Ranger" Rick Radzick, USMC Recon (91-95). Rick was my first Team Leader in the military, we linked up at 2d Recon Battalion in 1994. First Ranger Qualified individual I ever met, made a lasting impression on me. Rick lives up in Massachusetts, born and raised, he was defined by his service in the Marine Corps, his family and his faith. This episode is an introduction and a "Warning Order" that Rick will be contributing to the Veteran community in the future. 

Rick talks about his Grandfather, Merchant Marine, and the honor that Rick carries with him to this day. Both of our Grandfather's were Merchant Marines, very small world. As an 0311 (Infantryman) initially, Rick went to 2d Recon Battalion, from there he went to Amphibious Reconnaissance School, Airborne School, Dive School, Ranger School, SERE School and numerous deployments. We got a chance to talk about time at the Beach and all the fun there. 

Rick recalls old friends that defined his time in service and some in life. He says the name of an amazing Marine, Master Sergeant John Hayes (KIA Afghanistan 08 July 2009) and recalls some great times. When you get a chance to say their name, we say it over and over. A very moving tribute to John. More to come on MSGT John Hayes!

On top of being a Marine and working, Rick is a deacon in his church and is a dedicated husband and an engaged father. He'll give us some more during his Saga episode and on later episodes. During Rick's free time he enjoys going out with his Jeep and his club, Jeepin' around the woods. His YouTube channel, "Recon Jeeper", is where he shares the trips he takes out in his Jeep and some other great information on upgrades and troubleshooting. Check out his channel if you get a chance.

Rick is a great friend, one who earned my respect early and it was never lost; as a Veteran he has settled into a good life, one that is guided by principles learned walking through life with his head held high. We'll hear more from him very soon.
