  • Record Store Day: Best Movie Soundtracks
    In one of our coolest opportunities to date, we recorded live from the Compact Disc Center in Bethlehem, PA during Record Store Day - a biannual celebration of all things for the vinyl obsessed and supporting local music retailers.
    Of course there was only one conversation that felt appropriate: best movie soundtracks of all time. We've set a lot of rules for ourselves. We don't cover movie musicals, films from previous episodes, and scores. Most importantly these are our SUPER subjective picks of soundtracks that we owned on vinyls, cassettes, CDs and played to death. Hopefully by the end of the podcast you won't be saying: how could you pick that as a the best movie soundtrack of all time?
    In the best moment of the episode we get to grab a quick chat with owner of the Compact Disc Center, Mary Radakovitz, asking her to tell us her favorite soundtrack of all time. Special thanks to Ben Youngerman of Molten Metal Media for arranging this awesome opportunity and running our mics for the day.

There is no denying the web of influence that extends from this film. There is nary a teen comedy or drama post 1985 in American cinema that doesn't try to ascend to the comedic pithiness and emotional resonance of what Hughes captures about teenage life.     It’s Super Bowl week, and as Philadelphia’s beloved Birds make it to the big dance we thought it only appropriate to cover the city’s most enduring sports hero: Rocky Balboa.

    A script written in a feverish 3 1/2 days from a first time screenwriter turned sports movies on their head. Packed with heart, sensitivity and triumph in the face of loss, Rocky inspires us all to go the distance. With such a heartening story, and so many sequels, it would have to be required viewing of any film fan. It’s a Best Picture winner and has one of the most iconic scores of all time. So we have to in this episode ask one of our co-hosts, HOW COULD YOU NEVER HAVE SEEN ROCKY?!

  • Masters of the Universe (1987)

    By the power of Grayskull and birthdays we are bringing you a celebration of the beloved (and occasionally maligned) film adaptation of the toy series, Masters of the Universe. Join us on a good journey through the realms of Eternia and some town in Texas to follow He-Man in his usual battle with the villainous Skeletor. Behind the scenes, budget cuts and rushed schedules reigned supreme leading to a more earthly setting than most fans of the cartoon expected. 

    But 7 year old Ryan didn't care about any of that. It was all about seeing He-Man battle it out, laughing at Man at Arms, and that epic throne room. Hence why it is his pick this year for a very special birthday episode celebrating one of his most enduring loves, He-Man.
