Publisher's Summary:
Living for 20 years with undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by military sexual trauma (MST) and Gulf War Illness (GWI) has not made life an easy path for Sergeant Stephanie J. Shannon. In this first audiobook, Battling the Storm Within, Stephanie shares how her time of military service, and the resulting trauma she experienced, continues to affect her daily life, even 20 plus years later - a common story among military veterans.
A brave and deeply personal memoir that details Stephanie's military experiences, and especially her struggles when transitioning back to civilian life, this book is a bold step on the path for recovery for all veterans. This audiobook serves not only as a lesson of how to reclaim your life after PTSD, GWI, and MST, but also a call for change in legislation, government policies, the VA system, and military practices and procedures that impact the veteran population and their families.
Stephanie's story is a story of struggle, survival, and healing; that empowers others to address their own personal traumas and overcome them, bring awareness to the public the many issues the veteran population face, and provide resources and solutions to veterans and others in need.
Her mission is to empower others to face their own personal traumas, be healed, be restored and live again.

Stephanie shows bravery and courage by sharing her personal story
I applaud Stephanie for her bravery in sharing her personal story of trauma and survival. It takes a lot of courage to be so transparent and vulnerable because not everyone is going to get it. A woman's perspective of serving in the military is a lot different from a man's. Factor in harassment, peer pressure, your own desire to succeed and astronomical standards you place on yourself - not many are going to understand the drive, your 'why' or your desire to even want to serve sometimes. What I know is that this book gives a voice to so many who have gone quiet for too many years. It shows them that their story needs to be heard, that they too can be free from the traumatic experiences that may be holding them captive. Bravo Stephanie! Thank you for sharing.

very good book!
WOW!
Amazing book and also a powerful story! The author does a good job by disclosing what many would not do in a book. I applauded at the end. As an Army Infantry combat veteran, (Iraq Era), I know how different the Army is for female soldiers, but I have never worked with them when I served due to being Infantry (11 Bravo and 11 Charlie). I am proud to have read this story and I will not forget it! Great job Sergeant!
