We can learn so much from children. For this week’s episode of the Reawaken Your Health podcast, I interviewed pediatrician, Dr. Edgar Reynoso Vanderhorst, to explore how neural physiology in children relates to wellness in adults.
Dr. Vanderhorst earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in the Dominican Republic followed by a residency in the Department of Pediatric at Elmhurst Hospital Center, affiliated with the prestigious Icahn School of medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. He is currently a Neonatology Fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago working at the institution’s Children’s Hospital.
We discussed what neural physiology means and why that’s important for growing children. We then related this concept to neuroplasticity in adults.
From there we dove into how these concepts can help wellness and health in adults. Dr. Vanderhorst stressed the importance of adults learning to be calm around children since children model their behaviors.
He explained the lifestyle changes he feels really impacts families the most, including ways to improve oxytocin, serotonin and reducing stress. Dr. Vanderhorst touched on sleep, movement and diet as well since research has shown how these aspects of our lives can really influence behavior in adults and children.
We shared Dr. Vanderhorst’s book, Wellness: Optimizing Yourself, and the tools readers will gain from it.
Please join us to learn more about the relationship between childhood neural physiology and adult wellness!
