It’s time to stop being rude and start being polite by practicing Derech Eretz. The word means derech way or road and Eretz ground or earth. Literally it doesn’t have much of a meaning. When we hear the words Derech Eretz we hear our mother, our grandmother, our grandfather and our father we hear somebody reminding us that our behavior isn’t polite.

You may interpret the word Mitzvah from the way you hear it used in conversation and in the media as doing good deed. That is the common meaning. Donate something to the food bank or the clothing bank, or please want take out the garbage or empty the dishwasher that would be a real mitzvah because I’m really busy. The word mitzvah technically means one of the 613 Commandments in the Torah. 

Life is good when you enjoy what you are doing, L’Chiam. Enjoy everything God created because everything God created is good and for you to enjoy doing. Sometimes in your human evaluation of things you go overboard you lose track you might take something good and destroy it rather than excepting things in moderation. 

Being Jewish is easy simple and quick so it’s difficult to say that this is the easiest and quickest way to be Jewish. But during the month of Adar, you are required to be happy, because Adar is the happy month. We commanded, required to rejoice and have a good time during the month of Adar.

I’m always ready for a nice nosh, aren’t you? A nosh is something you eat when you are not eating. As Bobbie (grandmother) said you should never go to a meal hungry! What could be more Jewish than eating. You might want to allow extra time for this being Jewish. 

Honoring the old and the wise is another way you can be Jewish. According to the Book of Leviticus you are to “honor the old and the wise”and you will be happy and prosper in your life. What is it about being old and wise that requires you to respect them besides the fact that they lasted as long as they have? Honoring the old and the wise in a way is very selfish. By your example of how you treat the seniors among you, you are showing how you want to be treated. 

Incredible and beautiful pictures are coming in from the James Webb telescope, of our universe. Whenever I see one of the photographs of a beautiful star field it reminds me of a painting by Vincent van Gogh, Starry Starry night and of course he is immortalized because of his paintings. I didn’t realize until the other day that our cartoonist, Joe Sutliff, doesn’t sign a lot of his works. He is missing out on his immortality. Immortality in Judaism lies in what we leave behind.
