Couldn't finish this one...

Just seemed to me to slow and lack of communication between to two main characters. I never could get over the fact that Reno showed up drunk for their first meeting and then they both just kept doing crazy stuff without any reason!

Wow, definitely at the top. It has everything, a story you can easily relate to, characters that you feel you know, some twists that you never thought of, just a very well written story of a family.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Last Song?

Finding more about Steve. Loved his character, near the end but not saying as it would spoil it.

Very enjoyable story. Made me cry but that was because I felt I knew the characters.

Missing something

Not really my type of story. I would call it a teenage novel at best, a light romance at worst. It would make quite a good movie though, as its characters are colourfully portrayed.

Do yourself a favor and read this story; wonderful characters, heartwarming tale

Of all Jennifer Blake's novels, this one is probably my favorite. I have read it countless times over the years. I recently obtained it as a Kindle download and am in the process of reading it again now. What I think I love most about Jennifer's books are: exquisitely descriptive writing that indeed transports you to the place and time in history that the novel is set; the almost always irristiability of the hero (Ramon, in this book, has it ALL) and the usual well-developed heroine who's not so perfect that she's unrelatable. (Lorna, in my opinion, is 95% very admirable; points removed for stubbornness and a minor bit of passiveness in Nassua) So far, however.... in the Kindle version, I have found quite a few typos. I don't pretend to know how Kindle editions of books are done but it appears that whoever did the transposing of text from manuscript to Kindle format... they made some mistakes --- Since I know the book so well over (30+ yrs -- still can't believe how quickly time goes by !) these little typos stood out very plainly to me. It has NOT detracted from the story but if I were reading it for the first time, I may have been scratching my head over a few items. As usual, Jennifer sets this book in Louisiana (my home away from home, away from home!) and while New Orleans is not the primary location, you get just enough of "plantation country" + the city itself as a foil. Particularly evocative is the description of Ramon's former home, Beau Repose. You honestly can close your eyes and imagine it in it's full glory. Much attention is applied to the whole blockade running, ship descriptions, dangerous sea voyages, etc. If you didn't know much about blockade runners in the Civil War era, you will gain a nice appreciation of a subject that is not common knowledge (at least, I didn't learn much during my schooling regarding the importance of blockade runners and their impact on the war, including the British angle as well as ports such as Nassau) I found that Jennifer did a fine tribute by featuring the Royal Victoria Hotel in its heyday. So much so that I had to do research on this Grande Dame of Old Nassau. I won't spoil the story for others but, suffice to say, it is thoroughly enjoyable. The journey that Lorna and Ramon share, their connection and attraction to each other grow throughout the book and is so very believable. Unlike some stories where the protagonists have attraction, conflict, fights, sex, more conflict, etc etc... then end up happily ever after in the short span of a few weeks.... the majority of Jennifer Blake's novels take some time to develop and for the H & H to form a deep and abiding (and believable) love. Love scenes are "tasteful" -- very descriptive but never raunchy. She also has the talent of fleshing out secondary characters; it's nice that they remain memorable after the novel ends. The only thing I would like to see is a more complete epiloge....

Easy read with a twist in the end

Two couples with kids that have to share the same house for the holiday. An old story of love and a contemporary story of unhappiness and quarrels between husbands. I found the end coming too soon. I wanted to find more about the characters. Easy to read. If you like Sophie Kinsella writing, you'll find this book a nice read.

Horrible narrator

This story may have been more believable if it wasn't for the awful narration. I thought some other reviews were a bit exaggerated but unfortunately not! Don't waste your time with this book.

Morbid Lead Character

I thought Suzanne Bugler's first novel This Perfect World was superb and was looking forward to seeing what she would come up with next. The Child Inside deals with a very emotive subject; the death of a child, and like her previous novel it is well-written and at times a very compelling read, but for me there was something lacking.

The lead character Rachel is a woman in mourning, not only for her dead child, but also for her dead teenage friend, and also for the death of her marriage. The death of her unborn child and the death of her friend (albeit many years ago) seem so firmly linked together. Rachel seems to view the death of Vanessa all those years ago as a turning point in her life, even though they were not particularly close. Rachel spends much of her time looking back, trying to imagine what life would be like if Vanessa had not died. She also thinks that life in general, her marriage and her relationship to her son Jono would be perfect if only her unborn daughter had not died in the womb.

I found Rachel a very depressing character, although I was sympathetic to her losses, I found her very self-centred and her actions throughout the novel seemed purely to make herself feel better and disregarded anyone else around her.

Despite this, the writing is good and the story is at times quite fascinating. There were times when it dragged a litttle and I found the ending a little unsatisfactory, but I will certainly read her next novel.

Sunshine reader

I gave it 2 stars for effort but only made it a quarter of the way through the book because the copy and paste and repetitive errors became too annoying for me. I did not finish it, which is highly unusual for me.They should have had Naomi edit the book.

Because You Gotta Have Faith

Toni Sheilds is a no nonsense reporter that will stop at nothing to get her story, even if that means ending up in a jail cell. While chancing a story, Toni finds herself in some hot water at work and needs to find a way to redeem herself. Adam Bayne, director of a boys' home, tries to keep his boys out of trouble and off the streets. When Adam meets Toni, sparks do not fly immediately. Actually, when they first meet, they cannot stand one another. When Adam finds out that Toni is a reporter, he tries his hardest to keep the boys away from her. When he sees a different side of Toni's personality, he has a change of heart. Is he making a big mistake?

One Way Or Another by Rhonda Bowen is a novel about redemption and finding faith in God. While reading this book, you find that the characters are familiar, kind of like someone you may know, which makes this book a great read because you can relate to them in some way. The author does has a way to relate faith into her book without it becoming too spiritual. The book dragged a little in the beginning, but picked up after the first chapter. One Way Or Another is a good read if you enjoy Christian fiction.

Great book

My favorite type of romances start out with the two main characters disliking each other, I think that is because that's how my marriage started and it just seems more genuine and realistic. We have Toni Shields, who is a bossy, controlling news reporter that seems to find herself in jail a few times due to the tough stories she tries to capture. Then we have Adam Bayne, a Christian man that is the director of a boy's home. When Toni and Adam first meet there is this sudden attraction but then there is also there is conflict. Then Toni starts showing up at the boy's home, where her brother Trey also works, to try to get a story from Adam.

One of my favorite things about this book is that the romance is not forced. They don't just suddenly meet and fall in love, their relationship develops over time with some serious bumps along the way. However there is passion and flirting! Another great aspect of the book is that you have two people with very difficult pasts. Neither character is perfect and both are struggling to move forward in their lives. They are also struggling to follow God's will versus what they believe is right for themselves! There is a lot about this book that gets you thinking and prompts you to be a better person.

The characters are both genuine and entertaining. I have to admit though that Toni drove me crazy in the beginning.

teen dystopia

I have recently been taking some chances and buying audiobooks I have not already read as a paperback. This is one of them, I did try the sample and it was an intriguing story that came to me in a short blast. Both the Husband and I have listened to it and found it a good listen.

sci-fi apocalypse

The idea of a dome is not new. Arthur C Clarke's "The City and The stars" comes to mind. This however is a different way of using it. Great concept, almost visual in its descriptions and a striking storyline. Please hurry up with book 2 Julianna!

Interesting ideas but the plot falls a bit flat.

Three stars for interesting ideas and the world building effort. Also there were a few lovely contemplative moments and the writing style was enjoyable. The plot was a bit predictable and a couple of the voices of the narrators were a bit irritating. The idea of fusion of humans with objects, animals, other humans, etc., was very interesting but so far-fetched at moments that it was plain unbelievable.

Loved this, I'm not a big reader of this genre I warn you buttt I loved it. Details and back stories great, could be a little too pat in places but I was engaged and eagerly awaiting the next book.
