INSPIRING CONFIDENCE
Interesting early chapter book features protagonist ten year old Charlie. The author calls it an interactive bedtime story adventure. This book touches on many of the issues facing todayâs children like bullying, moving, and living in a divorced family. Charlie has carrot red hair; children love to pick on him. To make matters worse, his mom tells him that she has been offered a better job in London. He will have to leave his friends and home in Suffolk and move to the city.
On the first day in his new school, the âpopular kidsâ make fun of Charlieâs physical appearance and athletic abilities. His Aunt Kate suggests that things will be better after he makes a friend. Charlie is puzzled when she takes him to the circus. What does Charlie discover? How can this possibly be a solution to his problem?
This book contains seven short chapters whose length is perfect for children who are learning to read content independently. I would recommend it particularly for seven to ten year old readers. The simple black and white drawings enhance interest. Free downloads, video clips, and competitions included in the book will sustain interest and extend reading
Fun and entertaining!
I enjoyed this story very much! Although some of the links didn't work, the main story was engaging enough to overcome that!
A Difficult Read
A Difficult Read
A fun story with great lessons for all ages.
I did win this book in a Goodreads giveaway, but this review is my honest opinion.
Besides being a great picture book, it includes new technology with QR codes (or web links for those of us lower tech) leading to additional online content. The in book illustrations are black and white pencil drawn graphics.
Charlie and his mum live in the country, but now that his dad has moved out, his mum has to work harder and longer hours. She finds an opportunity for a job with better pay and benefits but it means she and Charlie have to move in with Auntie Kate in the big city of London.
A move also means a new school and starting over without any close friends.
Charlie does his best to act brave, but his first day at his new school feels like the worst day of his life!
When he gets home, his mom is still working, so Auntie Kate takes him to the circus.
You know what is at the circus? Scary clowns!
Honestly, this was a fun story and has some great lessons for us at any age.
It talks about life changes and being confident and brave, and how we should treat one another.
in horrible bullying basically okay
Kindle Unlimited, so thankfully will never have to see again.
