Perfect for Explaining Allergies to Young Children
I can't give this review enough stars. When my two year old was diagnosed with a nut allergy, we struggled to find a balance in conveying to her how serious it was that she avoid nuts... while not scaring the wits out of her with all the shots, medicine, and new rules.
This book struck the perfect tone. It was fun and light, but took her through the entire discovery of the allergy. The first half of the book reads like a normal fairy tale, until - uh-oh, the princess has a reaction to a peanut. My 2-year old was thrilled and exclaimed aloud, "Mom! The princess is allergic to nuts just like me." This is her favorite book. Instead of crying when we threw out a lot of her old favorite foods, she helped - because that is what they did in the castle. And, she understands why we have an epi-pen always with us and even the skin prick tests she had to do. We showed the book to her pediatrician and she was so impressed that she ordered one for the office waiting room.
Do you have a little girl with an allergy? Get her this book. She will love it. It might be a little cutesy for a boy. My daughter was giggly when the prince told the princess he was allergic to living without her and would give up peanut butter forever to be her husband. But, boys might find that sentiment a bit mushy :).

This is one of my daughter's favorite books. She has a severe peanut allergy and enjoys reading stories she can relate to (in a sense). We bought it to donate to our local library for Food Allergy Awareness... and my daughter likes to check it out herself. :)
Daughter Loves This Book!
This has to be one of my favorite allergy books. The princess in the story actually has a reaction and gets an Epipen! Good for dealing with reactions- the possibility of having one or dealing with the aftermath.
Great for any royally allergic princess!
I cried reading this book to my 7 year old three days after her night stay in the hospital due to anaphylaxis. She loved it!!
Allergic daughter loves it
I was afraid that reading this type of book would only scare my daughter even more, but I wanted something she could share with her class. The illustrations are great, and what little girl doesn't want to be a princess? She loves the book and found that it was not at all a frightening read.
