Hi guys! Welcome back to my podcast! In today's episode, I'll teach you how to express doubts or uncertainties in Italian. The first word that can come to our mind is "Non lo so", this is correct! However, you should also know that in Italian there are several alternatives to express uncertainties or doubts. All the ways to say “Non lo so” in Italian:

- Non ne ho idea (I have no idea)

To reinforce this expression, to underline that we really do not know something, we can also say “non ne ho la più vaga idea”, “non ne ho la più pallida idea” oppure “non ne ho la minima idea” (something like: “I don’t have the vaguest/slightest idea/clue”).

Example:

Dov’è il telecomando della televisione? Non ne ho idea, non ne ho la più pallida idea!

- Non ne sono sicuro/a (I’m not sure) or “Non ne sono certo a”.

Example:

La prossima estate andremo al mare? Non ne sono sicuro!

- Boh!

Example:

Chi ha suonato il campanello?! Boh, non lo so!

-Magari lo sapessi! (If I only knew!) or “A saperlo!” (Knowing that!) - Informal

Example:

Quali sono i programmi per la serata? A saperlo! Paola e Matteo non hanno ancora le idee molto chiare!

- Mi piacerebbe saperlo! (I wish I knew!)

Example:

Secondo te Andrea sarà libero questa sera? Mi piacerebbe tanto saperlo!

- Se lo sapessi, te lo direi! (If I knew, I’d tell you!)

Example:

A cosa serve questo oggetto? Se lo sapessi te lo direi!

- Ma che ne so! (But what do I know!)

Example:

Chi è il regista di questo film? Ma che ne so!
