But underneath, a deadly and morally corrupt triangle is taking shape....

    Members Reviews:
    Well constructed story, beautifully read
The presentation of this novel was excellent. The voice was easy to listen to, with a soft tone, and the accent used for Jed was good. The story is of a family devastated by the death of their son and the subsequent, slowly evolving manipulation of them by Jed carefully brings us and the mother to the realisation and proof of Jed's involvement in the death. The novel is well paced, well constructed, believable, and leaves you thinking about the theory of nature versus nurture. It is a really good listen.
    Good story , good narrator
Story was good , a bit sad. Slow to start with but gripping once I got into it.
Not Amazing but have listened to worse
I found the story really slow to start and as a result kept loosing interest and kept having to start again.
The story only really gets exciting in the last few chapters. Long and drawn out up until then.

Was addicted to this book from the first chapter
Absolutely brilliant book from start to finish, couldn't stop listening, great storyline, with lots of suprising twists, thoroughly enjoyed it.
    An intriguing beguling book
This book has been a beguiling joy to read. i thought it would be about the Detective but it was about a triangle of characters performed brilliantly by Nicola Bryant & John Banks. There are twists and turns and mysteries to be pondered. The prose that explains Monicas pain which is the crux of the book is exceptional and brings the reader into Monicas inner world. Recommended.
    loved this book
narrators very good. good story very real about the pain I have similar condition and could emphasise with the main character. few twists which I love in a book overall a good little read
    Unexpected and entertaining
Really enjoyed this thriller. An unusual plot with unexpected twists to keep you guessing. The narration was good although somewhat loud and dramatic in parts so you can't relax whilst listening to this one !
Well written but a little slow at times
I found the book a little slow at times. It did not completely hold my attention and the performance was quite annoying at times. Monica was quite repetitive and the dramatic use of her voice grated on me when she was in pain. However the storyline was quite original and the other characters were read well. The only other person who was extremely irritating was the cleaner and the use of Monica's pigeon English when conversing with her. I gave it 3 stars as it lacked tension and I found it slow for a psychological thriller.

Where does Narrowing the Field rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Having finished all the Dick Francis novels, I'm delighted to find someone writing using the same background of horse racing.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Narrowing the Field?
There is a different tone to this book, but the characters are good, the plot pulls you in, and you are kept in suspense right to the end. Well written.
What does Daniel Weyman bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
The narrator brought it to life, and didn't get in the way.

    Brilliant!
I have always read Dick Francis so when I spotted APMcCoy on the cover I hoped it would be as good. Yes! And Daniel Weyman is by far the best narrater there is.

    Publisher's Summary:
It is December 1657. John Grey, at his cramped desk in Lincoln's Inn, is attempting to resume his legal career. A mysterious message from a "Mr SK" tempts him out into the snowy streets of London and to what he believes will be a harmless diversion from his studies.
Mr SK's letter proves to have been intended for somebody else entirely, and Grey finds himself unwittingly in the middle of a plot to assassinate the Lord Protector - a plot about which he now knows more than it is safe to know. Can he both prevent the murder and (of greater immediate relevance) save his own skin?
Both the Sealed Knot and Cromwell's Secretary of State, John Thurloe, believe he is on their side, but he is unsure that either is on his. As somebody is kind enough to point out to him: "You are a brave man, Grey. The life of a double agent can be exciting but very short." Grey just has to hope that prediction is wrong.

Steve Farris is an unexceptional middle-aged architect with an extraordinary past: When he was nine, his father came home one evening and murdered his mother, brother, and sister before vanishing off the face of the Earth.
Steve has coped by shutting out the terrible memories, but when writer Rebecca Soltero arrives to interview him about his father, he is forced to reawaken the horrors of his childhood.
    Members Reviews:
    Dark thriller
Thomas H Cook writes great books. This is a well written, psychological thriller that I found hard to put down. It is a dark tale about Steve Farris who was just 9 years old when he lost his family in a moment of madness. His father took a shotgun and gunned down his mother, brother and sister while he was at school. His father then walked out of his house and disappeared. Now decades later Steve is recanting his few vague memories of that day and the months that preceded the murders. It is a depressing tale, but one that I couldn't stop reading.
    Intense
In Mortal Memory, Thomas Cook focuses on Steven Farris, a 40-something suburbanite who lives with the knowledge that his father murdered his mother and two siblings. Now an adult with his own family, Steven seems to live the perfect life until Rebecca enters. She has set out to write a novel about men who murder their families, and she wants to find out what Steven remembers about his own family. This causes Steven--who narrates this first-person tale--to dig far deeper into the psyche of his dead family; it turns out that he remembers much more than he thought. In the act of remembering, will Steven learn that the sins of the father revisit the son?
But what pushed his seemingly mild-mannered, gentle father into such a barbaric act?
Cook writes with a dreamlike quality; at times, I felt like I was wading through a dream, knowing in some ways how it would turn out but unable to wake up. His words are haunting, and this is a disturbing look into the secret world of a "normal" family. I thought I had the story all figured out, but I was truly surprised by a couple of twists along the way. I was unable to pull away from this novel and even dragged it along on vacation with me in order to finish it. This is worthy of valuable reading time. Don't expect a cleanly wrapped up ending; Cook's story here is a bit too complex for that. However, the writing is excellent, the story is compelling, and the characters get under the skin. Read this one!
Writing style isn't strong, but story is great if you hang in until the end
I'm not familiar with this author and his style moves a little too simply and quietly for my taste, but he has put together a very interesting story of discovery, recognition of what was known but not realized, and how perception can be heightened and distorted. Some plot twists you almost see coming, and others not until the very end. But still a quiet book which helps the reader feel the desperation throughout it.
Not everything happened the way you remember
    PLOT OR PREMISE:
A young boy loses his mother, sister and brother to an apparent killing spree of his father.

Twists & turns right to the end
This is the second book in the series and I enjoyed it as much as the first one - the plot moves the main characters to America adds to the plot line.
I would recommend this book but would suggest that you read the first book beforehand in order to understand the back story line that ties the series together
    Second DI Kate Simms Book
The story itself, about a sequence of disappearances of single mothers and their child, is slightly unbelievably. Not that it could not happen but that it would not be identified as a series for over 10 years!
The story leaves far too many things open in the relationships of the main characters and tries too hard to have different stories intertwine with the main narrative.
The end of the book left me feeling that it was rushed and incomplete.

    Amazing
I picked up Jeff Napolitano's "Children" at the recommendation of a friend. I was not disappointed. I was captivated by the characters and the storyline. The reader roots for Emily and Christian as they navigate the path of young love with their tainted and difficult pasts. Both children come from families that have been torn apart or broken by something and are just hoping for a chance to love and be free- to be children. Napolitano does an excellent job weaving the relationships of the various Millers and Cosentinos.
I hope to see more from this talented author in the future. This was absolutely beautiful.
Very Well Written and Emotionally Engaging.
"Children" is a celebration of family and love, no matter how many dark things lurk in the past waiting to rear their ugly heads at any time. It is a great father/son novel that demonstrates just how deep that bond will hold even through the most horrific of circumstances. The characters are richly written and get you rooting for them. The prose flows smoothly and is not disrupted by tedious cliches or unnecessary subplots. This si the first work I have read by Napolitano and it definitely makes me want to seek out more.
    Very Entertaining
I really enjoyed reading Children by Jeff Napolitano. The book goes into the realities and challenges that are faced still when trying to changes one's life and future circumstances for the better. It's not always as easy as packing up and moving to another place as it's still hard to be free. The author does well with his writing to bring about each situation in detail and keeps it very entertaining. You are anxious to find out what is next to endure and how it will be handled. I recommend this exciting tale.
    I enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book. It was a refreshing change from all the new adult books I've read lately. Interesting story line, good character development (despite what other reviewers believed) and having the pov of many characters at the right time added to the story rather than making it confusing. It's a little on the darker side, but thats what I like.
Napolitano is an excellent writer and I hope he continues to write
This book tells quite a story. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. This fictional story explores organized crime and child abuse.

    Kritters Ramblings
Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings
Let me start by saying, I love Swedish mystery/thrillers. I love this defined sub-genre, so when starting this book I was beyond excited. Unfortunately this one didn't live up to the other Swedish mystery/thrillers I have read. For me, this book had a little too much police procedural and less of the gory crazy drama that I love when it comes to Swedish mystery/thrillers. Don't get me wrong there are dead bodies, but I felt like the body count was low and it was more about the hunt for the truth.
I say all of this to say this book was fine. I went into it wanting something very particular and it didn't do it, but it was fine if you like the detective work of other books.
    Found another great author
Did not know what to expect since I had not heard of Anders. MemoRandom was much more than I expected. Great story with lots of action and suspense. Didn't know what the outcome was going to be until the very end. Anders' writing style made it easy to visualize what was happening; like Bernard Cornwall.
    Edge of the seat thriller
We heard the author read from this book in June at the Bay Area Book Festival. I think he ranks very close to Jo Nesbo in style and content, kept my attention throughout and I hadn't figured out the solution until right at the end.
    Good Read
Pleasant reading. Fun until the very end when I honestly got lost in the loose ends. Have met the author at a book reading at Scandinavia House. Very personable guy, and his voice comes out in the book. I look forward to reading more of his work!
Well written with twists you wont see coming.
This was a bit of a slow burner for me, part of that was because the story unfolded slowly. As David learned more about his past, learned more about the secrets he had been sworn to keep so too did we.
