A fun and lighthearted read!
When Patrick Salt was murdered, his faithful companion, labrador Monty almost died trying to save his master. Seventeen stitches later Monty was recuperating after a time at the vets with Detective Rose Sidebottom. Rose was investigating Patrickâs death but she was fighting a losing battle against some particular men in her team. Monty was determined to help Rose find Patrickâs killer â after all he knew who he was by the smells which were attached to himâ
Monty loved his food â it was why heâd failed as a guide dog. But he was sure he could curb his desires to track down the killer. With the help of a few animal and insect friends, Monty was on the case. But could Rose understand his dog talk? After all, Monty could understand bigâuns talk!
As Rose and her boss worked their way closer to the truth, it seemed only Monty knew the danger she was in. What could he do to make her understand him? He couldnât bear to lose another beloved master â he just wouldnât let it happen!
Monty and Me by Louisa Bennet is a wonderful, fun and light hearted read, filled with the grittiness of the chase as we dig into the mystery of the killer, while trying to identify him. The main detective just happens to be an animal instead of a human! Narrated mostly by Monty it has many laugh out loud moments, and touching, heartfelt moments as well. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will search out book two in to Monty detective series by this author. Highly recommended.
Pure joy to read! Intense, insightful and fun!
Monty and Me took me by surprise, not only because of the fact that it is a crime story told from the perspective of a dog (how cool is that, all you dog fans out there;)?), but by its wonderfully positive humour and charming style. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this ARC which I received in exchange for an honest review.
By page 18 I had already realized that I had smiled, giggled and even laughed more than 10 times. Anyone who loves either reading or writing knows full well it is not an easy task to get laughs out of printed pages. Louisa Bennet does humour naturally, her wit is unforced and clever, her tone so easy to follow that reading goes quite easy and you simply breeze through the text.
Monty, the accidental detective, is not just a dog, but a fully-fledged character, and one you will grow to like from his initial accounts of his duck and food addiction, through his interpretation of human behaviour, to his emotional description of his owner's murder, and on and on.
