Avec le projet de lire enfin Murger, qui attendait son heure, elle s'engage dans un voyage rythmé de paisibles étapes le long d'un canal. Son imagination et sa mémoire dérivent au fil de l'eau et des rencontres - une gardienne de vaches, un éclusier tendre et un peu menteur, un délicieux couple de mariniers... Mais elle ne s'arrêtera jamais très longtemps auprès d'aucun de ceux-là. Elle sait qu'ils la mènent à un autre rendez-vous, bien plus essentiel, avec ce père qui un jour fut un jeune homme insouciant, rêvant de la vie de bohème.

An inspirational true story

Grace Ann Neuharth's "Family Secrets: Letters

to My Granddughters" gives us a glimpse into the

depth of a child's terrifying nightmare in the

fifties.

The actual thirty-year incident, taking place

with the author who has lost her memory since four

years old, involves her in a seemingly never-ending

web of deceit, domestic abuse, lies, suppression

and denial. The story not only filled my eyes with

tears, (and laughter during some good moments), it

presented a wonderful inspiration that "God is with

us" in spite of it all.

It was indeed a pleasure for the opportunity to a

great read. Because, joy flooded my heart to see

the author had finally overcome her horrifying obstacle.

No one deserves such horrors, but "Family Secrets"

paved a path for Grace with developing her into a

victorious, influential vessel for others who may

have, or is now, experiencing similar darkness today.

Can't Put It Down

This is a very good book about the difficult subject of ongoing sexual abuse.

Through it all hope still shines through, along with healing.

It helps us all to see why the action of abusers should never be covered up, but rather exposed so more kids aren't hurt.

Not a book, it's really only a chapter

This book is about the length of a chapter. All of her books should be bound together and sold as one, for the same price as one book. It did not go into much detail. I felt bad she suffered so long, but much of that was her own doing. She stuck her head in the sand and tried to hide her symptoms. She also should have been referred to a specialist MUCH earlier. The amount of time she went with no or limited treatment borders on malpractice. All in all, it was not worth the 30 min I spent reading it.

Not the full story, misleading

This book is a VERY quick read (less than 30 minutes) and it's not her whole story. It's only the beginning of the story, and ends right before her surgery is to take place. It promises another book for more of the story, but I'll pass. I sort of feel like I paid for an intro chapter and not much more.

Very uninspiring to me, who was diagnosed with Graves disease in July.

Review of Life in a Cave

I had no idea what Grave's Disease was before reading this book. Now I am beginning to understand the physical symptoms, emotional trauma, and mental stress associated with this condition. As I read, I empathized with Ms. Marie's struggles as she fought to deny her symptoms for so long. Being a teacher, mother, and wife myself, I understood her desire to continue to successfully fill each role, as well as the frustration and agony she experienced when her symptoms prevented her from doing so.

Ms. Marie writes in a personal journaling style, enabling us to see into her thoughts, fears, frustrations, and choices throughout the course of the book. I believe that giving this insight could be invaluable to others who are experiencing similar symptoms. Reading this book might very well save others from experiencing some of the heartache Ms. Marie went through before her diagnosis.

If you have a loved one dealing with undiagnosed health issues, encourage him or her to read "Life in a Cave".
