A good present to anyone who has ever called you fat.

Sandy has recently moved in with her boyfriend and although she loves him it has not been smooth sailing. The main reason is because he keeps going on about her weight. When he gives her a bottle of slimming pills she tries one just to shut him up but the results are not what either expected.

This is another short that is very compelling and at times gross. I've no idea why Sandy was with her boyfriend Donald as he came across as being arrogant and rude right from the start. They must have fallen in love at some point to move in together but now that they do share a place he badgers her about being fat at breakfast, lunch and dinner. At times I really wanted to punch the idiot but I'm happy with how this played out in the end. It would be good if there was a follow up to this just so we know what happened. It's not a cliffhanger and I can pretty much guess what happened but it would be nice to see how sandy is doing a month down the line. A good twist, not scary for me in the slightest but it dose make you shiver and leaves you thinking this would be a good present to anyone who has ever called you fat.

Although I thought this was really good I cant rate it higher then Regina Puckett's other short story 'Mine' as that just had the creep factor that stuck with me so I give this 6 out of 10 Good, but I had to get out as the water was getting cold.

Just might scare a few pounds off you

Sandyâs new boyfriend, Donald, is constantly on her back about how much she eats. She loves him, so when he gives her pills that he tells her will keep her from gaining weight, she jumps at the chance. Unfortunately for the both, the pills have some unusual side effects.

If you want to know what they are, youâll just have to read Regina Puckettâs extremely short book, Slimmer. Puckett writes with a deft touch and a wicked sense of humor, and youâll enjoy this story despite a few typos that intrude in strategic places.

Take Two and Call Me in the Morning

It's the same old story. Girl meets boy. They fall in love. They move in together. Boy starts telling girl she's a fatty and needs to lose weight.

In this story, boy offers girl a new "miracle pill" to help her lose some pounds fast.

Puckett plays off of what most women worry about, their mate losing interest because they start to get a little jiggly.

The story is well written and was a quick read. Great ending.

This author scares me, in a good way.

Donald is a jerk. And Sandy is tired of it. But there is a pill that can fix everything! Slimmer by Regina Puckett is a creepy book, in a cool way. Iâm going to get more by this author. But I might not sleep tonight. Five stars.

New stories of this overlooked pulp hero

The last new pulp hero from Thrilling Publications was the short-lived Purple Scar.

This hero was published in Exciting Detective as their cover feature (maybe hoping to have another success like The Black Bat in Black Book). But it was not to be. After running for three successive issues in 1941-42, the last story was published in 1943. All four stories appeared under the name of John S. Endicott. Altus Press has reprinted the whole series in a single volume.

The Purple Scar is really Dr. Miles Murdock, a successful and well-known plastic surgeon. When his brother, a cop, is brutally murdered, he dons a purple mask made from a mold of his brother's face, to imitate the scarring caused by acid. Using contacts he had made among the down trodden, he starts to work against criminals.

The Purple Scar also has a few assistants. In the first story, we met all three: one is a police detective who is told his identity, and who accepts the Purple Scar's help; the second is his nurse (and possible love interest), Dale Jordon; and the third is the Sticky-Fingered Kid (Tommy Pedlar), a reformed thief now serving as the doctor's aide.

The underworld is apparently scared of the Purple Scar, yet he never kills. So he's by and large not being chased by the police, though he avoids them. He's treated more like a detective then a vigilante, usually bringing all the key players together at the end to expose the guilty party. This is typical of the various Thrilling heroes.

Now, finally, Airship 27 has brought out a collection of new Purple Scar stories after dropping hints for the past year or so. This collection contains four new stories.

One thing that is notable in this collection is that Airship 27 has been prominent in emphasizing what the Purple Scar really looks like. While we have him described in the stories, the artwork we had seen of him doesn't match. Kind of like how The Spider's covers rarely matches what he looked like. So the cover and artwork on this collection emphasis his real and horrifying appearance, as do the stories. I think this is good, as too often the pulp heroes were not used to their full extent.

Listenable, but not really my thing

Would you try another book from Steven E. Wedel and/or Theo Holland?

I am not so much into the genre' of this book, but like Werewolves, so I gave this one a try. Unfortunately, these are short stories, character studies, of figures who have appeared in a series by the author, and I think one would be better off beginning with the series rather than these short stories.

Theo Holland, the narrator, I enjoy. He has an every-man voice, a touch of a region, and extremely listenable, sort of alike a "Henry Fonda" type of reader. He provides the right inflection to alter the various character voices, and does females well, which means not making them sound like a high pitched cartoon, which male readers can tend to do.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Since these were short stories, there really was no one ending.

Have you listened to any of Theo Hollands other performances before? How does this one compare?

On par as a whole. I like though when the story he reads has to do with some American town, because then his regional accent really fits, but it does not get in the way in this case either.

Was Call to the Hunt worth the listening time?

It was shorter, so yes. Had it been longer, I might have given it up.

Werewolves through the ages.

If you could sum up Call to the Hunt in three words, what would they be?

Not for squeamish.

What other book might you compare Call to the Hunt to and why?

This is my first book about werewolves, but I really enjoyed how the author dealt with the subject.

What does Theo Holland bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

I really enjoyed how he handled the different character voices & accents.

"Okie Werewolf Looking For Love" was very funny.

Very creepy story! Very entertaining!

Well first off It Came From The Attic is a super creepy story! Young Tommy is being punished for having a poor report card from school. His parents decided to leave him at his grandparents house in the middle of nowhere while they travel to Paris. With no wifi he is stuck with barely anything to do that he finds fun. Tommy wanders into the attic to look for some of his fathers old toys but what he finds is terrifying. A TV turns on, on its own showing the creepiest clown show. After his first visit to the attic he starts hearing voices, a young girl warning him, and the clown summoning him. His grandparents are hell bent on keeping Tommy out of the attic, but Tommy is on a mission to free the children with the missing eyeballs from the clown show.

What is most terrifying is when Tommy learns the truth about the clown and his grandparents. Johnny the clown is actually his uncle! Bullied as a child Johnny the clown has a heartbreaking story, but not sad enough to justify his actions! Johnny needs children's laughter and pain to survive and create his evil world in the television.Tommy miraculously saves the children but will he be able to make it out of the clown world? Read to find out!

This book I would say is good for kids 10-16. It is creepy to be prepared. It is a quick and easy read, that had me hooked to find out what was going on and what was going to happen to Tommy. There were a few grammatical errors but they did not bother me. The plot was very easy to follow and although it was simple it was also very interesting. I was very entertained by the story and read it all in one setting.

Fascinating Read!

It Came From The Attic ( Creep World #1) by Luther Darkmore is a fascinating readig and I am sure that all the kids will love this book. The story is woven around the incidents that a child experiences. After having lower grades at the end of the term at school Tommy is taken to his grandparents' house unwillingly as his parents are on a trip. He does not like to stay there as there is no toy that entertains him. Secretly entering the attic he finds cool items and an object that looks like an too old television which confuses him. He faces a mysterious incident in library as well. Flowing through mystery, fantasy and magical incidents the book grips the reader's mind entertaining him. I highly enjoyed this and my kid loves it as well. I am looking forward to read the other books of this series as well. Recommended!

Keith made me leave a review and you CAN'T say no to Keith....

I read this book in about a day. While it is about novella length, that was not the reason why I read it so fast. I simply did NOT want to stop reading.From the jaw-droppingly brutal beginning to the fitting and satisfying ending, Keith delivers on every level. It is well written and bloody with edge of your seat suspense wondering what Keith will make John do next.

John needs to escape his dull life and newcomer Keith is just the guy to help him out. At first, they might have seemed like total opposites, but slowly you as the reader will see that they share some dark desires. Keith is going try his damnedest to get John to embrace that side within.

I've liked some of Andrew Lennon's work in the past and some I didn't care for. This, however, I loved. I'm not going to stop reading Andrew Lennon and that's good, because it doesn't look like he's going to stop writing anytime soon.

We all have a little bit of Keith in us

I new before I picked up the book that it would be good and it was. I had lots of fun reading it, it was gross, sad, and I guess you could say enlightening. If you haven't read this yet you are missing out. I recommend to all fans of modern horror!!!!

American Mary

Great second novel by Andrew Lennon!!! A true justice to horror. John is a poorly paid, frustrated, data entry clerk. Keith is the fun, outgoing friend, that can bring John out of his lowly shell. Let the psychological and brutal horror begin!! A great read, I could not put it down.

If you enjoyed stories like fight club you'll love Keith. Very wild and twisted story. I'll be reading more by this author.
