Loving Two Men

Colin loves Gwen, she is in love with his best friend, David. Colin & his brother, Rowan have 'adopted' David as a brother, their grandmother taking him in at age 12.... these young men are so close & love one another. Gwen loves David, but she feels a strong connection to Colin. Rowan & David intercede, Colin withdraws from their lives....so many things transpire in their lives, each has a journey to travel.... years pass, David is killed in an 'accident'....as a U.S.Marshall, Colin finds he must talk to Gwen about information he has discovered. I had mixed feelings about this short romantic suspense book. I hated the twelve years separation between the death of the heroine's husband and her reconnection with the hero, who had loved her prior to her marriage. These long separation romance plots leave me feeling as if a hero and heroine were stupid to waste so much time, so I find it difficult to view them sympathetically. The heroine and hero were both likeable enough, otherwise.

There were paranormal elements touched upon, but coincidences accounted for some of the key plot points. These didn't bother me as I don't mind some coincidences in a story as long as they don't get too over-the-top. The story did not feel as developed as it could have been, though, no doubt due to the short length. This was basically a light, enjoyable read that was unpretentious and entertaining. It makes for an easy beach read, or a way to while away a rainy afternoon.

I recommend this book to readers who want something light, but with good writing mechanics.

This book should be made into a movie . It would be a great hit and I know people would go to see it. There was secretes, murder ,love and sadness all roll into one book. Each person part took on a life of their own. I tell you it was as if you was ( more you read the book ) looking at a movie and afraid to move out of your set because you afraid you might miss something. Yes I have the first of the Trilogy and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to getting my hands on that book. GREAT JOB IRIS JOHANSEN !!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU

We Get It, Already!

I forgot how much I dislike this series. The story lines are okay, though I am not much of a ghost believer. What bothers me about Johansen's writing is her continuous dialogue from both Eve and Joe about their independence, their protection of the other,blah, blah, blah. It gets very monotonous after awhile. We get it, already! You love each other, and want them safe. Joe is particularly bad.

If I can remember, I probably won't read another one in this series......except, they did have such an intriguing ending! It might make me pick up the next one.

Eve is haunted by Jenny's face and ghost. Jenny says there have been other and will be more killings.

I purchased Shadow Play, the 19th book about Eve Duncan. I have read every one of these books and found them all to be exciting and different. I really don't know how Iris Johansen keeps her characters so alive and fresh, but I am glad she does. Eve is reconstructing a skull found buried in a wooded area. The Sheriff wants Eve to get it and put it to the front of the other ones she is doing. He needs this one done quickly. Eve starts working on the skull and things that have never happened to her before starts in. She does the reconstruction in record time, and is haunted by the girl's face....and by the girl's ghost. Who would want to kill a 9 year old girl? And she tells Eve her name is Jenny and that there is more killings that will be done if she doesn't help. Does Eve and Quinn find the killer? How many girls will die before they do? Read the story to find out.

Excellent!!

I thought that I was finished reading the Eve Duncan series .

I'm biased. I live in Vermont and love nearly everything about the state, so Burt pretty much had me from word one, but it's the final words that really make these stories so enjoyable and memorable. There's a campfire quality to the tone and atmosphere of these stories. They start off with soberly skeptical yet evenly open-minded folks just checking out strange events. They finishing having leveled the reader with a Poe-like jab to the face.

I don't know anything about Steve Burt, and this book is my first encounter with Devaney & Hoag, but I hope there are other stories to be anthologized, and if not I hope Burt finds inspiration for future stories.

The voice work is fine in this audiobook addition but New Englanders may find the accents a bit distracting. They tend to skew more mid-west than Northern New England, but that lapse of authenticity aside, it's a sturdy rendition.

I stuck with this book out of loyalty to bob Skinner tales most of them were outstanding

A good story and well narrated. A few reminisces into past books and the exploits of his latest lovechild - now an adult. I think we have not heard the last of Bob Skinner but we will hear of him in a different role in the future. A worthwhile listen.

Excellent story line and also the narration. Always love this author's books and this one is as good as ever. Wish he would write quicker as I can't wait for the next 'Bob Skinner'.

I have now listened to all of the series of the Skinner books and may listen again after a few years gap.

I have always enjoyed the characters in the Skinner books and the way they grow older and their evolve, they marry, have children, characters die as they do in real life.

They all merge into one.

This series is so cute and this installment was as charming as ever! Lovita is going to be a new mommy and is having morning sickness..and this mystery did not help her nausea...There is a new BBQ place in town and it is serving up some mystery meat! lol Of course it is up to the girls to figure out who, what, when where and why! I loved it!!! The narration was great and I definitely will be wanting to listen to the next one!!

I love this series!

I received this book in exchange for a honest and unbiased review. I love this series! These ladies in this series are a group of characters! Each one has their own sense of humor , trouble and danger too. Together they are a riot and unstoppable. Lovita is so intelligent and has a real knack for the PI business. Sue Jan, Jolene and the others are just as much trouble and fun. So many funny lines such as a taco in the oven and Boiled as an owl.

The author, Linda Kozar has an amazing ability to write with so much wit & charm for a cozy mystery. I love how this series carries on, as the girls are so much fun, that I hate to see them ever come to an end. The plot is excellent and there are so many twists and turns, it could be mistaken for a highway! The narrator, Michelle Babb does wonderful with all her accents for the characters. She makes the story so much fun and captures the wittiness of all of Lovita's friends and you can hear it in her different voices. Michelle is one talented lady. Kudos to both ladies for such a wonderful series!

Very funny and enjoyable. Listened to the whole book in one day. An excellent book.

Fantastic in parts - boring in places

There is no doubt that Christopher Brookmyre writes with impressive intelligence but parts of this were just too much about educating the reader (or listener) - almost to the point of browbeating. There was so little action and so much information about the Scottish political and religious landscape that I almost gave up on it. I'm glad I didn't as I was rewarded for my perseverance with a scene that had me crying with laughter. I would say that the book is about 50% action and 50% political education and for this reason I still found it a bit hard going. However, it is written with wit and intelligence and took some interesting twists and turns..

Intriguing as ever

Great characters, impossible and hugely amusing events, surprises and a wonderfully planned denouement. I wouldn't mind if his writing were a little more concise but he does create character and a world in which it lives with enormous detail, particularly the inner dialogue. Very enjoyable. Well worth the time.

Stick with it!

Slow and quite "bitty" to start. However, once the threads combine and the pace of the story picks up, it's really enjoyable and riveting. I loved the humour and Angus King's performance was super.
