Have you ever wondered how to care for a cut or wound that has become infected?
We all get cuts and lacerations from everyday life activities and sometimes those wounds become more serious. They can turn into chronic wounds that won't heal or they can even become infected. It's important to know some basics in wound care so they don't become a problem.
We explored this topic for this week's episode of the Weekend Wellness Hour Show by talking to wound care expert, Dr. Eberhard Samlowski. Dr. Samlowski was a 20+ board-certified general surgeon before switching to full time wound care specialization over 11 years ago.
We began by discussing various types of wounds and then dove into some basic wound care tips for everyday cuts and lacerations. Dr. Samlowski discussed when you would and wouldn't use hydrogen peroxide and why he uses Anasept instead of Neosporin or bacitracin for its antimicrobial properties to prevent infection.
Dr. Samlowski explained the stages of healing and what it means for a wound to become chronic. He shared some common reasons, including too much pressure, low oxygenation, older age, and diabetic status, that wounds don't heal.
We even explored what happens during an infection and some common signs and symptoms. Dr. Samlowski also covered tips on healing and explained how diet really does matter.
We covered this and plenty more.
Dr. Samlowski now practices as a consultant for nursing homes in Texas. He addresses pressure ulcers, venous or arterial wounds as well as diabetic wounds on a daily basis but also assists others in finding the right help if they have a wound that won't heal or an infection.
Please join us to learn more about how to take care of your cuts, lacerations and wounds so they don't become infected or chronic!
Please feel free to reach out to Dr. Eberhard Samlowski at [email protected].
