March 27, 2024 Revisiting: Compassion in Action: Animal Rescue Corps with Tim Woodward & Michael Cunningham
Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) protects dogs, cats, and scores of other domesticated animals across North America and beyond through large-scale Emergency Animal Rescue & Disaster Response, Shelter Relief, and Education & Training.
Whether it’s a situation of animal hoarding, puppy mills, dogfighting, natural disasters, cruelty, or basic neglect, the number of companion animals living in deplorable and deadly situations is staggering. Too many communities have few or no resources to help. Suffering can continue for generations.
Enter Tim Woodward and Michael Cunningham of Animal Rescue Corps, and their army of angels who arrive in massive numbers: veterinarians, handler, scribes, photographers, and other helpers who quite literally save the day for these suffering animals. This team of volunteers, sometimes numbering in the hundreds, document conditions, retrieve every single animal, clean them, medically treat them, rehabilitate them, and find them loving homes.

Amidst the 2020 pandemic lockdown, an isolated college student stumbled upon a shocking paradox while watching the news - farmers wasting surplus food, leading to an environmental crisis, while food banks struggled to meet demand. This disturbing dichotomy struck a chord with ⁠Aidan Reily⁠, a ⁠Brown University⁠ junior, and his best friend, ⁠James Kanoff⁠, a ⁠Stanford⁠ junior. Driven to bridge this gap, they rallied their friends, brothers Ben Collier and Will Collier from Connecticut, and successfully marshalled an army of 500 student volunteers. Together, they launched ⁠⁠The Farmlink Project⁠⁠.
As of March 2024, this student-powered non-profit has remarkably shifted 165 million pounds of excess farm produce to needy food banks, providing 137,500,000 meals, while simultaneously sparing the environment from 238,145 tons of carbon emissions. An inspiring testament to how proactive minds can turn adversity into a powerful tool for change.
