  • FWW Opposes Effort To Undercut NY's Ban On Fracking
A newly formed Texan company is attempting to evade New York's fracking ban with a scheme to drill thousands of wells, frack with carbon dioxide, and construct a dozen gas-burning power plants. The company, Southern Tier Solutions, wants to use carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels to extract even more fossil fuels. It's a dangerous example of why carbon capture and sequestration – known as CCS – is a false solution to climate change. Eric Weltman of Food and Water Watch provides an update to Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine. FWW is sponsoring a virtual meeting this Thursday Dec. 14 at 6 PM. • Miko Peled Speaks At Bethlehem Library
December 5th, the Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace, Palestinian Rights Committee, Troy Area Labor Council, and Women Against War hosted Miko Peled at the Bethlehem library. Peled is the son of an Israeli General who served in the 1967 war and the grandson of a signer of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. He himself was a special forces Red Beret soldier in the Israeli military until he became disenchanted with the direction he saw his country taking and became a peace and human-rights activist. Many pro-Israeli activists tried to have the talk shut-down and attempted to disrupt the talk itself. This excerpt of the talk begins with Peled being asked by moderator David Banks to explain what people mean when they say that Israel’s treatments of Palestinians qualifies as apartheid.
