    The replacement of lead water service pipes recently became a major issue in the City of Troy. In a new report Beyond Plastics warns of the human health risks of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic, recommending state and local officials avoid using the material for their communities’ water pipes. The Biden administration and Congress is providing $15 billion to municipalities that need to replace toxic lead service lines. Judith Enck of Beyond Plastics, former Region 2 EPA Administrator, speaks at the news conference releasing the report. By Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.     David Fleming is widely recognized as a state expert in cemetery regulation and management, having represented cemetery organizations, including many of New York’s largest cemeteries, since 1995. In this interview, he speaks about his experiences as a lobbyist for the death industry and new legislation such as Natural Organic Reduction in New York State. He also shares his perspectives on the importance of cemeteries as cultural and artistic landmarks.
    Veronica Maroulis, a student from RPI, is trying to change the cultural taboos around discussing death through a series of interviews with people in the industry to promote a deeper understanding of the topic.
