  • Reidy On New Albany County Program On Gun Violence
    The Albany County Legislature has created the DISCOVER program aimed at firearm safety and reducing illegal guns in the county. The program will fund a gun buyback program, distribute free gun locks, create a confidential tip line for illegal firearms as well as institute handgun safety courses through the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. Dustin Reidy, one of the bill's main sponsors, talks about it with Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

    According to her bio, "Mary Panza has been a mainstay on the Albany poetry scene since 1988. She has been witness to countless open mics, naked poets, fires, drunks, chapbooks, career changes, organizations (both coming and going), festivals, and great poetry and spoken word. "
    Mary hosted two long-running open mics - 5 years at Borders in the late-90s and the Poets Speak Loud series at the Lark Tavern and then McGeary's for 15 years until the pandemic hit in 2020.
    Last December Mary read her poem, "We're Barefoot People," at the first "Year in Review" spoken word event at The Linda.

Ian Hauck, head Reference & Adult Services at Troy Public Library, shares three interesting options: "The Farmer's Lawyer" (Sarah Vogel, 2022) tells how an attorney creatively used the law to help people keep their family farms. "The Bright Ages: A New History of Medieval Europe" (Gabriele & Perry, 2021) shows that what is often called the Dark Ages was actually a period of extensive trade interaction among cultures. "How Do We Relationship?" (Tamifull, various translators, 2020, 2021, 2022) is a series of Manga books exploring the process and challenges of developing a relationship.
