  • Poestenkill Gets $3 Million State Grant For Water System Due To PFOA
    The Town of Poestenkill has been awarded $3.32 million in state funding to provide safe water to residents after the local water was contaminated with PFOA. The grant will cover 60% of the estimated cost associated with creating a second water district covering Algonquin Middle School and the surrounding area. State and county officials however are still not investigating the source of the water contamination. Poestenkill Town Board member Eric Wohlleber gives an update with Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

    The Albany Center for Law and Justice is working to stop Jordan Young from facing a prison sentence that they say may be fatal for the young Albany Native. He has not fully recovered after being shot by Albany police in January in a case that is under investigation by the Albany Community Police Review Board.   • Talking Nature, Writing, and Mushroom Farming in the Collar City with Avery Stempel
    Avery Stempel has been coming out to local poetry readings and open mics since the late-90s. Since then, he has been featured at many regional literary events. Last December Avery graced the stage at The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio in Albany, for the Year in Review show. There he read, as some have called it, his "signature mushroom poem."
    When the pandemic hit and his job as manager of EMPAC at RPI came to an end, Avery shifted his focus to a dream that he shared with his girlfriend, Amy. Together they opened a mushroom farm in Lansingburgh.

  • Canandaigua Treaty and the Importance Treaties Carry
    The Canandaigua Treaty was signed on November 11, 1794. It established peace and friendship between the young United States of America and the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. Ansley Jemison, Cultural Liaison at the Ganondagan State Historic Site, told correspondent Sina Basila Hickey that this celebration is an opportunity to educate people about this treaty (what it did well and how it failed), the overall importance of treaties, and the treaty's impact on affected Indigenous communities.
