Humanity Chats Host - Marjy Marj Shares a Message on Equity, Unity, and Service to Commemorate MLK Day.
An MLK Day for All
Please know that like you, I am fallible and have made mistakes and utterances that I am not proud of. I do not seek to offend, but rather to encourage us to do right by humankind.
A blessed MLK Day to you all.
What are you doing today?
Is it a day off from school or work?
Are you sleeping in?
Getting some rest?
Catching up on your TV shows?
Volunteering in your community?
Checking on your black friends?
Posting your favorite Dr. King quote on social media?
My question is - what are you doing for others today and every day?
Are you judging others by the content of their character?
Are you inviting others to your table?
Are we making real promises of equity?
Do we seek to denounce physical violence?
Do we seek to denounce inflammatory statements?
Are you working on ways to achieve the dream?
Is that dream a possibility?
Regardless of religion, political affiliation, or race -
We have become a pretentious and performative society.
Making shallow promises to one another...
Jumping on to hashtags without doing the work...
Posing in pictures to be recognized for our good deeds...
Making hurtful statements behind each others’ backs...
Limiting the opportunities for others to learn history...
Friends, we have to do better.
We have to be our brothers and sisters keeper
We need each other. And we need our allies.
Together, we can go far.
May we not only keep Dr. King’s words alive but also, let us speak and act in ways that will help us on our journey to equity, unity, and service to humankind.
Per Dr. King’s words - "If you can't fly, then run, if you can't run, then walk, if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving."
May we all join hands as we seek a better today.
