About Guest

Molly Talbot-Metz is the Mary Black Foundation’s fourth President/CEO since it was founded in 1996. She joined the Foundation in 2001 as its first Program Officer, became the Director of Programs in 2007, and was named Vice President of Programs in 2013. Prior to joining the Foundation, Molly worked on local and statewide efforts to reduce teen pregnancy.  Molly has a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education from the State University of New York at Cortland.  Molly and her husband are natives of Syracuse, New York and have lived in Spartanburg, SC since 1999.  They have two children.

Molly is actively involved in the community. She serves on the boards of directors for the Northside Development Corporation, Spartanburg Academic Movement, and Spartanburg Community Indicators Project. She served as board chair for the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (now Fact Forward) and Spartanburg Housing. She co-chaired the design committee and fundraising campaign to build The Franklin School, a national model in early childhood development care and education. Molly is a current member of the SC Grantmakers Network.

Annette Dei is a speaker, a wholistic wellness coach, and a philanthropist who serves orphans, widows, and women in rural Africa. She has a reputation for empowering women to live a life of impact, influence and fulfillment. 

Pastor Annette describes herself as a Bride, Servant, and Soldier of Jesus Christ. She loves her roles of being a wife, mother of 4 wonderful children and an educator. She is the Executive Pastor at Calvary Redemption Center located in Skokie IL where she serves alongside her husband who is the Founder and Senior Pastor. 

She affirms that the day she read Ezra 7:10 she was convinced of her life’s purpose. With an in-depth understanding of this scripture, she has purposed in her heart to study, live, and teach God’s word. Pastor Annette is the founder of Alabastercare Wellness, which uses biblical principles to teach and promote wholistic wellness. 

She is also the founder and leading lady of Beauties of Eden; a ministry that empowers women to be bold, confident and become ambitious helpers in building a greater tomorrow. Additionally, she serves as founder and president of a registered non-profit organization called Shallum Foundation. 

Pastor Annette’s greatest passion is to encourage, equip, empower and inspire God’s children to live their God given purpose and to be fruitful here on earth.

In honor of Women's History Month, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann shares her journey and STEM experience.

Meet Professor Effah Kaufmann

Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann is Founding Head of the newly established Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. She is also an Associate Professor and Founding Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ghana. Elsie began her education in Ghana then proceeded on scholarship to the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales where she obtained an International Baccalaureate Diploma in 1988. 

She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE, Cum Laude), Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) and PhD in Bioengineering all from the University of Pennsylvania. After her graduate studies she received her postdoctoral training at Rutgers University, serving also as founding Director of the Cell Biology Laboratory at the New Jersey Center for Biomaterials, and thereafter joined the University of Ghana in 2001.

Elsie has contributed immensely towards the development of Science education at all levels in Ghana and beyond. She is noted for her contribution to the establishment of the School of Engineering Sciences as well as the development of several other academic programs (Physiotherapy, Radiography, Audiology and Medical Physics) at Ghana’s premier university. She is probably best known for her role, since 2006, as Host and Quiz Mistress of the hugely popular Ghana National Science & Mathematics Quiz TV Program for Senior High Schools. Her contributions to STEM education have been recognized with several national and international awards. She was inducted as a Fellow in Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE) by the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE) in 2020. Elsie is a Council member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering and the current President of the Ghana Society of Biomedical Engineers.
