Hungry Trilobyte Podcast episodes

  • HTP #105 - Marc Morales
Marc Morales is an independent film maker, a horror fan, and an all-around movie fanatic. In this episode, he and I discuss his movie about to go into production. We also get the chance to talk about horror fandom (an insider perspective for him and an outsider perspective for me). There’s also a really fun side-chat about how film fanatics were able to research movies in the VHS era, compared to the DVD and streaming eras.

  • HTP #104 - Reece Brown
Reece Brown is a new actor who just appeared in the movie Social Credit. He and I talk about the value of alternate history stories, and then get into more personal discussion about films. Between Fight Club, Big Fish, and the occasional Star Trek reference, Reece has a lot of great insight into where he wants to go in life and how he wants to treat people on his way.

  • HTP #103 - Adil Hussain
Adil Hussain is an accomplished actor, known to Hungry Trilobyte fans as Aditya Sahil in Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery, as well as Santosh Patel in Life of Pi.  During our discussion, Adil treats us to an amazing analysis of how acting allows us to capture the moment, and he and I discuss how the arts have a way of transcending time, years, and places.  He credits a lot of his perspective to the book The Gospel of Ramakrishna, which I plan on reading ASAP.

You can follow Adil’s work on IMDb, and his personal adventures on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

  • HTP #101 - Joshua Christian Azali
Joshua Christian Azali is a fresh actor, excited about the possibilities the creative field offers him. In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, he and I discuss the struggles of getting started, giving yourself a smart foundation in order to chase your dreams, and GAMING! Turns out he’s way cooler than I am on the gaming front.

  • HTP #100 - Larry Nemecek
Larry Nemecek has been around the Star Trek fandom in so many capacities… as a writer, editor, podcaster, and even as McCoy himself in Star Trek Continues.  In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, we’re excited for the premiere of the second season of Lower Decks and amused by the joke about the Tom Paris collector’s plate… which made us remember the Collectible Plate fad of the 80s and 90s.
That spins into a slightly deeper discussion of how fan trends come and go, and how generations of fans sometimes look at the same concepts very differently.

  • HTP #099 - Edward Lorusso
Edward Lorusso has been a boon to fans of silent film, successfully releasing over a dozen previously lost films on DVD through the use of Kickstarter. His most recent campaign has secured 1921's Straight is the Way. In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, Edward and I discuss how today's tools are great resources for fans of lost film, how he's a model for anyone trying to serve film history, and the technical marvel that was early cinema.

  • HTP #098 - Johnny Eimen
John Eimen had the amazing experience of being a child actor in the “Golden Age” of TV— and loving every minute of it. In this episode of Hungry Trilobyte, Johnny and I talk about how the industry has changed, what was expected of a child actor at the time, and what it was like to meet Rod Serling and Walt Disney.

  • HTP #097 - Stephan Reese
Stephan Reese is the Executive Director of The Interactive Art Collection, a showcase of video game related visual works.  Most notable in that collection is “The Art of Nintendo Power”,  which are examples of the mixed media that created the covers and spreads for Nintendo’s showcase magazine.  Nintendo Power ran from 1988 to 2012, and Stephan indulges me greatly as I ask all sorts of questions (and just geek out) over how the magazines served to bring Nintendo fans game news when there were no better conduits.

  • HTP #096 - Steven Jay Rubin Returns!
Steven Jay Rubin (who discussed James Bond in Episode 74) visits again to indulge me in my deep-dive into The Twilight Zone and its creator, Rod Serling.  The two of us spend a lot of time discussing how the writing of the series was heavily motivated my Rod's sense of activism and social reform.  We also note that The Twilight Zone was one of the first examples of mainstream science fiction being made for adults.  Steve is able to draw heavily on his book, The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia, as a resource.
