Because we have been brought out of darkness and into light, we are called to live in a way that honors God, exposes darkness through our example, and makes our lives count for eternity.

Following Jesus means more than knowing what’s right—it means putting off our old ways and putting on the new life He has given us. In Ephesians 4:25–32, Paul challenges us to speak truthfully, manage our anger, work honestly, build others up with our words, and forgive as we have been forgiven. Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3 focuses on shifting the posture of a believer's heart from personal agendas to a state of humble surrender before an infinite and sovereign God. Rather than asking for a change in his difficult prison circumstances, he requests that Christians be strengthened from within by welcoming Christ completely into every area of their daily lives. Ultimately, this deep grounding in God's eternal love provides real stability and gives glory to a Creator whose power far exceeds anything human beings can ask or imagine.

Ephesians 2 reminds us of the the incredible contrast between who we were apart from Christ and who we are because of Him. We were spiritually dead and unable to save ourselves, but God - rich in mercy and great in love - made us alive through His grace. We are not saved by good works, but we are saved for good works, created in Christ to live out the purpose He has prepared for us.
