He was never able to convince the Ross family or the public, though, and if he really was Charley he took that secret to his grave... Or did he? Rod is a descendant of the Miller family that was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Charley Ross, and grew up in family of ten boys and three girls in Mason City, Iowa. He holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Northern Iowa, settled in Minneapolis 35 years ago with his life partner, and retired from the mental health profession in 2011. His interest in geneaology began in 1977 when his father removed a black satchel from a mildewed cardboard drum his our wet basement, handed it to him, and said "This is Charley Ross."
