My first Christmas as a business owner was a learning experience.
In 1998 the idea of doing business on Christmas Day wasn’t a popular one in Australia. But just by heading to the store for a quick clean on Christmas Day, I saw first-hand an opportunity to make a unique connection with my community and change my business methods forever.
It’s the season of giving, and the perfect time to talk about the true value of a gift.
On today’s episode – what sets a gift apart from a discount? Which is better for your customers and your business in the long-run?
A discount is a straightforward offer but a gift gives you the opportunity to think outside the box and make a genuine connection with your customers that will leave a solid, lasting impression.
I’ve had many successes in my life, but I’ve also learned my limitations.
In today’s episode we talk about the dangers of trying to be an all-rounder who’s ‘good’ at many things when you can be brilliant at one thing.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn new skills, but in business I believe you need to focus on what you’re great at and become the master.
Applying these principles to yourself can be challenging, but by applying this standard to everyone involved with your business, you can reap the rewards for years to come.
Sometimes when it comes to challenges in business, when it rains, it pours!
But instead of going under, staying calm and thinking on my feet didn’t just keep me afloat, it turned a potential opening-night disaster into lifelong business relationships.
Today I’m talking about the importance of staying focused on the big picture. Little details are certainly important, but getting hung up on them can detract from your bigger goals and significantly slow your progress. But what are the best ways to address the smaller issues in a constantly challenging environment?
That’s not all – I’m also revealing my exclusive vision for the future of restaurant dining, and my revolutionary way of incorporating technology to enhance the experience for customers and staff alike.
2020 was a difficult year for everyone, presenting challenges and obstacles we’ve never faced before. But now it’s time to look into my crystal ball and see what 2021 has in store – and there’s a lot to be excited about!
The world has become a lot smaller in practical terms, but that means a big boost in confidence and opportunities at home, especially for anyone thinking of starting up a business in the new year.
In today’s episode my daughter Kameelah takes the reins to ask me some challenging questions about business and life in general.
No subject is off limits, from my role models growing up and stories about my school days to superstitions, who the family dog likes best and even what I’d be doing if I hadn’t taken the path I have.
It’s the perfect mix of professional and personal, with a host who might even be more charismatic than I am!
The early bird gets the worm, but there are other benefits to starting your day nice and early.
Today I tell the story of how an early-morning chat with some of my team resulted in some important decisions being made that otherwise may have been missed. I also discuss managing your team, and identifying the different methods and personalities of the people who make it up.
Whether it’s in the office or on the cricket pitch, understanding how a team works best and building confidence in everyone is vitally important.
In today’s episode I talk about the hidden value of being branded an underdog, and how labels and perceptions can give you an advantage, whether you’re playing poker or taking a high-profile meeting on the highest floors of a corporate tower.
I also discuss the benefits of narrowing focus and starting off small when beginning a new venture, and ask whether Donald Trump is showing the characteristics of a good leader by refusing to accept defeat in the US election.
Professionalism and success aren’t exclusive to the business world.
In today’s episode I talk about the universal impacts of achievement and what I can learn from professional athletes, master coaches and even politicians who have reached the top in their respective fields.
The world’s greatest winners have a huge number of beliefs and strategies in common, and learning from experts outside your own industry can even give you a competitive edge as you seek to develop your leadership skills.
