I was asked, in response this post: 

The manipulator has the right to be who they are, however the receiver is the one that can accept or reject the manipulation. Most of the time, at first someone may not notice they are being manipulated. 

It takes time and experiences to see the patterns and even then when we are tied in, we are scared or totally unaware of what is going on. 

Once we can see the manipulation , we cannot not see it and that is when we feel uneasy and try to stop it or attempt to point it out or even take off which I have seen people do over and over again. 

As well the manipulator may not know they are doing it and think something is wrong with the people who run rather than seeing why they ran and they keep starting new relationships over and over again. Frances Robinson asked," When their people run off, do the manipulators then see themselves as innocent victims?" We are really really good at holding on to stress. We pay attention to it once is starts affect our lives and behavior. We deal with it in one of two ways. We either face it and acknowledge it or we pack it away for a rainy day that never comes.
