Having faith that there was hope for good Christian films finally pays off with Believe Me! The well-acted, well-edited, well-written, well-comedied (it's a thing) film proves that not only are there well-intentioned, talented Christian filmmakers out there, but that those filmmakers can also make something that can (and should) appeal to a wide audience.

Perhaps anything is better in comparison to the atrocious God's Not Dead, but helmed by a pair of directors who seem to have some competence with story structure and more than enough talent behind the camera, Woodlawn is - dare I say it? - not bad. It's not very good, mind you, but it's a step - even a baby one - in the right direction.

So we've already established that Spike Lee is a great director of his own material, but how does he do with material that didn't originate with him? Pretty damn well, as a matter of fact. In this final episode for February, Jim makes the case for 25th Hour being great because of Lee's sensibilities as a New Yorker post-9/11 and how he paralleled the larger sense of an irrevocable national loss with a smaller case, irrevocable personal loss.

Spike Lee had an unenviable task when he was hired to make Malcolm X. Not only did he have to do justice to the story of a man who was so influential to the African-American community, but he also had to make people who weren't African-American understand why he meant so much even if they didn't agree with him. He succeeded.
