Maybe the 3 hardest words in the human language. Today Perry and Shawna come to “As we forgive those who sin against us” in the Lord’s prayer. Our guest Jennifer Greenberg, www.jennifergreenberg.net, is a sexual abuse survivor. She was abused by her father and today she shares the long journey of being healed and forgiving this horrendous evil done to her. Jen opens up her heart to share her story and what it took to forgive (it took a miracle). Then Jen talks about two kinds of forgiveness, boundaried forgiveness and reconciliatory forgiveness. Then Jen talks about how her dad would say to her, “If you don’t forgive me, God won’t forgive you.” This twisting of scripture made Jen think she had to forgive her dad to earn salvation.
Then Tommy, one of our listeners shares how God enabled him to forgive his alcoholic father. Next Jen talks more about how God freed her from the lie her abusive father planted in her soul: If you don’t forgive me, God won’t forgive you. Then Perry asks a curious question: “Jen with having been so sinned against it would seem you’d have every right to be bitter, to hold a grudge. And if your abuse led you into sinful behavior it would seem like you’d get a free pass for your sin because you were the victim. How did you realize in this confusion that you too are a sinner?” Jenn’s answer is profound. And finally meet a brand new follower of Jesus, Jr. who just gave his life to Jesus last week!
