Due to exhaustion and the psychic toll of having your home city lose the equivalent of 2 1/2 Manhattans to wild fires, I really shit my pants on getting this episode ready and finally just accepted that I'd have to go this road alone and, well, here we are. It ended up being an absolutely brutal decision, because I was forced to endure that smarmy fuck David Frum all on my own. So, I fucked up recording the audio for this episode and thankfully my guest, Gita Jackson (writer, podcast) bailed me out, so the whole episode is thankfully here. It's a good episode! They were a great guest! They talk about their parents' longtime viewership of a guy they don't really agree with, and then we hypothesize about the weird audio issues that this episode of Real Time had. They were WEIRD, man. Also, the panel features an absolute world class asshole. Fuck man. Unbelievably annoying.

Just to get it out of the way, there is some mild mic cable rattling in this episode, I'm going to find a good solution to that so it stops happening. ANYWAY, fresh off of recording hjs album/special, comedian James Fritz was the show's SPECIAL GUEST this week, and it was nice to have an old Politically Incorrect head on the show. We talked about Bill Maher's foray into fiction, his weird homophobia, and also the saving grace that was Martin Short. Also, one of the show's worst ever guests appears once again to torment me, specifically.

Writer/actor/director Vera Drew is my guest this week, and wow wow wow she and I may have witnessed the maximum amount of homophobia a person can do while still advocating for the rights of gay people (sort of). Also, we realize there's a common denominator in how people are introduced to Bill Maher, are frustrated by Bill Maher's willingness to let his ideological opponents define the framework of their debates, and bear witness to a moment of shocking religiousness from the host himself.

This week, Bill Maher dedicated fully half of his panel discussion time to talking about Black issues; it was as smooth sailing and easy to watch as you'd expect, and comedian and writer Lisa Curry was who had to endure it with me. She's another person with experience writing for these kinds of political comedy shows, let's see if she thinks this is a top notch quality program! Also, if you don't enjoy hearing Bill Maher be moderate-to-highly blase about sexual violence, be warned that there is an incredibly stupid brief discussion about it towards the end of the episode. Also, the episode art is the clearest screencap of Bill Maher's outfit that I could get, but there are the pinstripes on pinstripes if you want to see them.
