Scammers used an artificial intelligence voice tool to impersonate Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and his staff in an attempt to persuade some of the nation’s top businessmen to wire money overseas.

Prada SpA co-Chief Executive Officer Patrizio Bertelli, fashion designer Giorgio Armani, Pirelli & C. SpA Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera and billionaire Massimo Moratti, former owner of the Inter Milan football club, were among those targeted, according to reports by Italian newspapers La Repubblica, Corriere della Sera and others.

Tuxedo Society

Over the weekend, a video went viral on X showing a bunch of 20 somethings dressed in black tie dining and dancing in what looks to be an old European villa with the caption “Casual parties at Lake Como.” The video amassed over 25.5 million views and sparked a day of discourse about whether the people in the video were actual old money or just cosplaying.

Like most things on the internet, the video was staged. The people in the video are all part of an “Instagram club” where you pay to dress up and make “old money” content with a bunch of aspiring “old money” influencers. The club is called the TuxedoSociety and it bills itself as an exclusive members only club “dedicated to the finest experiences in the most iconic places of all time.”

The website for TuxedoSociety, which costs 6,000 euros per year to join, promises that the group is “where legacy is crafted, and every encounter holds the promise of something greater, TuxedoSociety is your gateway to meaningful relationships and once in a lifetime moments.”

There is no physical club, so members are just paying thousands of euros to get invited to “luxury adventures,” which they’ll have to pay extra for, and networking opportunities. They also promise to teach members, “The Gentleman’s Way: Learn the art of Everyday Elegance, apporach [sic] life with the charm of a gentleman.”

TuxedoSociety’s website is riddled with spelling errors and features the generic Wordpress logo at the top of the tab. One co-founder, Gabriele Bonini, is an e-commerce hustler, and the other, Riccardo Capotosti, is an “old money” Instagram and TikTok internet personality. All the members listed on the website are men, though attractive women are featured prominently in their content. And though it bills itself as exclusive, the co-founders are promoting membership on Instagram.

Sramek, a former Goldman Sachs trader, has said his vision for the city coalesced while he was on a fishing trip in the nearby delta. He and other speakers listed a long series of benefits that they say would result from raising a new city on a rolling expanse now dedicated to ranching and wind farms.

In the half-century since, this turn has been codified in laws that aim to restrict development to existing cities and their edges. If the state is serious about tackling its dire affordable housing problem, he argued, it doesn’t just have to build more housing in places like San Francisco and its suburbs — it also has to expand the urban footprint with new cities.

Mr. Sramek likes to fish. The way he tells it, around 2016 he and his girlfriend (now wife) started making the one-hour drive from San Francisco to Rio Vista to catch bass on the Sacramento River. One of those trips, driving past pastures and grazing sheep, sparked an idea.

In a state whose agricultural bounty has historically been a function of moving water great distances, the area is something of an anachronism. For generations, families like the Mahoneys have practiced “dryland farming,” which means they rely on rain, not irrigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s helicopter program spends 61% of its flight time on low-priority incidents at cost of nearly $50 million per year to taxpayers, according to an audit released today by the City Controller’s Office. … The audit focused on LAPD’s use of helicopters from 2018 through 2022, and explored whether the department has “justified the need for the program’s current size and scope, which consists of 17 helicopters and more than 90 employees,” according to the controller’s office.

The city operates its helicopter fleet on an almost “continuous basis” — usually there are two helicopters flying for 20 hours every day of the year. The helicopters logged an average of 16,000 hours of flight time each year at a cost of $2,916 per flight hour.
