  • Tantroniq's Voice
We learned this week that the excellent composer Tantroniq (Tanya Thielke) passed away earlier in the month, succumbing to cancer (🤬 cancer!). So instead of playing live, we’ll listen to a sampling of tracks from her canon. You can find her works on Bandcamp (https://tantroniq.bandcamp.com/).

  • Quiet Voices
Whispers, murmurs, silent expressions of emotion, even our inner voice: we communicate quietly as often — perhaps more often — than we do out loud. On this edition of I Scream Sunday, we listen for those voices.
Phillip Wilkerson: “While Silence Sings” (Complex Silence 23)
Meg Bowles: “A Quiet Light” (A Quiet Light)
Karl Fury: “quiet and chaos” (quiet and chaos)

    Kuutana: “A Quiet Thought” (Moonrise)
In the second hour, I’ll play a live set of music, called Voices in the Stillness.
    1 hr 56 min
  • Voices in the Wind
The wind carries stories of life, of our home on this earth, and of our own joys and sorrows. It whispers, it sings, it roars, it rages. This episode of I Scream Sunday finds us standing in the winds and experiencing their infinite variety.
(Sorry about the weird reverb during the intro!)
Dan Pound: "A Different Wind" (Change of Weather)
    Juta Takahashi: “Fair Wind” (Angel)
    Anantakara: “Intuition’s Breeze” (Momentum Lapses)
James Shain: “The Wind Sings Softness” (Windowless Journey)

  • Voices of the Animals
This weekend is Imbolc. Even though winter is still in full voice, we celebrate the very first hints of spring — maybe crocuses are starting to poke their little heads up; maybe we’ll see animals preparing nests for new births. So we continue our theme of voices in the natural world this week with an episode focusing on the critters around us: horses, dogs, cats, elephants, sea horses, insects, and more. In the first hour we’ll listen to a collection of tracks from the RadioSpiral library:
Ozone Player: “Dogs On a Beach” (Videozone)
Ozone Player: “Lemons and Lizards” (Orange Apples)
Lucette Bourdin: “Mystic Horse” (Horse Heaven)
Ma Ja Le: “Alley Cat Sings Midnight Blues” (Dreams in the Orchards of Saturn)
Forrest Fang: “Seahorses and Aeolians” (Forever Cascades)
    Franck Martin: “Firefly” (Suspended Times)
Kit Watkins: “Elephants and Ants” (Holographic Tapestries II)
    Palancar: “Insect Melodrama” (Precis)
Cloudwalk: “Creatures of the Air” (Forgotten World)
In the second hour, rather than a live set this week, you’ll hear highlights from Saving Cecil’s Pride, an album that we produced ten years ago after Cecil the Lion was shot by a trophy hunter in Africa. Proceeds from sales of this album are still directed to Big Life Foundation, a conservation group that works in Kenya and Tanzania to protect elephants, lions, rhinos, and other wildlife from poachers and trophy hunters.
    Cousin Silas: “Lost Latitudes”
Pas de la Dame Sauvage: “At the Water’s Edge”
    VÆRNA: “Requiem for Cecil”
Wings of an Angel: “Saving Mankind Begins with Respect to All Lifeforms”
Tim Kays: “Kings of the Kopje”
Chris Anderson: “Shavi e Shumba Ofora Pamberi (the spirit of the lion(s) marches forever forward)”
The eloquent final commentary on this program was written by George Miler, the co-producer of Saving Cecil’s Pride. Find the project at https://savingcecilspride.com

  • Voices of the Green World
It might seem strange to create a show around the green world in the dead of winter, but nature has her own wisdom. Deep underground, spring is already starting, even as winter lies across the frozen land.
So in this episode of I Scream Sunday, we’ll get to know the green world a little bit.
In the first hour, we’ll hear tracks from the RadioSpiral library:
Jack Hertz & Wolfgang Gsell: “Ever Greens” (Sleeping Trees On Earth)
EugeneKha: “Green Heart of Earth” (Green Quest)
Scott Lawlor: “Green Pine Needles in Autumn” (Biolumenescence)
Natural Life Essence: “Ancient Tree (Listen Tales Ritual) (Plants and Trees)
Sacred Moments: “Desert Roots” (January 2018 Week 3)
    Robert Carty: “Organic Seas” (Ecoroots)
And then in the second hour, I’ll play another live set that focuses on the world around us, teeming with life even in winter: The Greening Below Ground.

    Shoots
    Roots
    Rain
    Flowers
    Bees

  • Voices of Heaven, Part 2
Throughout history, humans have tried to capture our images of heaven — paradise — in many forms, through music, art, dance, film, and so much more. Today’s episode of I Scream Sunday is the second of two exploring musical visions of heaven. On today's episode, we take a different look at the heavens of some of our artists.
    Audraulic: "Dreaming Heavens" (Split EP)
    Hendu's Groove: "Almost Heaven" (Reflection)
Jim Ottaway: "Beyond Heaven and Earth" (Infinite Universes)
Alpha Wave Movement: "Mapping the Heavens" (A Distant Signal)
Staticer: "Grey Heaven" (The Air Between Us)
December Nightskies: "The War In Heaven" (The War In Heaven)
Visions of the heaven can be devotional, and also rational: we observe the skies, the heavens, and do what we can to map and understand them. In the second hour as usual, you'll hear a live set from yours truly. This week it's called Spheres of Influence and is a series of musical impressions of the seven classical Ptolemaic spheres:
1: Moon - she is mysterious and aloof, silver and cool
2: Mercury - he is fleet of foot, always in motion, and a bit mischievous
3: Venus - She is the embodiment of love and desire
4: Sun - He is both nourishing and relentlessly uncaring
5: Mars - He is full of blood and battle, ready for war at any moment
6: Jupiter - The King of the Gods, he might be a little drunk on power
7: Saturn - He is the keeper of time and discipline, old age and death

  • Classical Voices
As the technology becomes ever more sophisticated, electronic music can cover or emulate a nearly infinite variety of sounds, including classical instruments and practices. The RadioSpiral library includes quite a number of tracks that have a classical or neo-classical flavor, whether in instrumentation or because the composer comes from a classical background, so on this edition of I Scream Sunday, we'll play a few — and still only barely scratch the surface! I'll play live in the second hour, and we'll see what I can do with all that classical training. Join us!
Kai Engel: "A Neon Flesh" (Paradigm Lost)
Daniel Robert Lahey: "reverie (thing 314)" (I have nothing better to do)
George L. Smyth: "Love" (2020 Vision)
Broekhuis, Schönwalder & friends: "A Classical Event" (Spherical Bodies)
Scott Lawlor: "Show Me the Glint of Light" (classical chamber version) (show me the glint of light)
    ʞu¡0ɹʞS: "Æterna"
poemme: "symphony of meadow" (Blooming Spring)
Silvercord: "Symphony of Sighs, mvt 1 (Within My Heart's Slumbering Soul)" (Symphony of Sighs)

  • Voices in Winter
The Solstice is upon us. In the Northern Hemisphere, anyway, the days begin lengthening, though we’re still in for a long season of cold and dark for a time.
The deep of winter is a time for introspection, gathering internal resources to prepare for change and growth. Underground, spring is already being prepared.
On this episode of I Scream Sunday, we’ll hear a wintry mix of tracks from the RadioSpiral library, and a live set from yours truly.
