Dr. Sheikh Faiyaz Jaffer is the Research Scholar for the Islamic Center at New York University and an Associate Chaplain for the Center of Global & Spiritual Life at NYU. In addition, he is currently a doctoral candidate at NYU Steinhardt’s School of Education. Sheikh Faiyaz attained an MA degree in Islamic Studies (UK), with a concentration on early Islamic history, after his undergraduate degree from SUNY Stony Brook University in Political Science and Religious Studies. He has had his research published by academic journals. In pursuing the classical course of Islamic education, Faiyaz studied in the Seminary of Karbala, Iraq, one of the most prominent centers for Islamic learning.

Since 2009, Shaykh Yahya Rhodus has been an esteemed teacher at SeekersGuidance, where he not only contributes to the spiritual and intellectual growth of the community but also offers some of the most popular courses. The Founding Director of Al-Maqasid, Shaykh Yahya envisions the facilitation of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan through immersion in the Prophetic Inheritance. His educational journey began at the traditional school of Murabit al-Hajj in the desert of Mauritania shortly after his conversion, setting the foundation for a life dedicated to the realization of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan.

The concept of Al-Maqasid emerged from Shaykh Yahya’s own journey, which continued at the acclaimed school Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim, under the guidance of the renowned scholar and spiritual guide Habib Umar Bin Hafiz. Graduating from Dar al-Mustafa and returning to the United States, Shaykh Yahya pursued studies in various academic institutions, culminating in a PhD in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge, England.

Shaykh Yahya believes in the necessity of building sound educational institutions that effectively nurture the realities of Islam in the lives of believers, enabling them to reach their full potential as human beings. He has dedicated his life to teaching and helping others put their knowledge into practice for the benefit of themselves and humanity. In the spirit of what he has learned from his teachers, Shaykh Yahya is committed to a holistic approach to religious life that considers the various dimensions of health and is embedded in love, mercy, knowledge, purity of heart, remembrance of God, good companionship, and concern for all of creation.
