Genre: Sci-Fi Comedy
Starring: Gillian Anderson, Anna Kendrick
Somewhere on the scruffy, forgotten outskirts of a planet that's seen better millennia, Sally Carwasher (Gillian Anderson) and her daughter Jesse (Anna Kendrick) run the galaxy's most unremarkable flying car wash.
The robots do the waxing. They make the coffee. Occasionally they wave.
The customers? Now that's a different story. On any given Tuesday you might serve a seven-limbed bog creature paying in fermented moon slugs, a nervous android on his way to a first date, three sentient fog banks sharing a hatchback, or a time traveller who's technically already been here twice. Sally and Jesse greet them all with the same mild enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, in the background and really it's fine, don't worry about it, a full-scale intergalactic war appears to be breaking out on the horizon. There's what looks like an alien invasion two sectors over. A starship just exploded. Fairly spectacularly, actually. Sally refills the coffee. Still, good for business right?
The only real threat to the car wash operation is Colonel RebelKillerson, a slick, greasy, gloriously self-important operator with a very shiny uniform and designs on taking over the wash. He is, in Jesse's words, "a lot". What Jesse doesn't know is that this place means something far deeper to her mother. a secret tied to the death of Sally's father, lost long ago in a car waxing incident that changed everything, and that Sally has never once spoken about.
Wax This is the story of two women, one broom, an inexhaustible pot of terrible coffee, and a universe that simply cannot stop being dramatic around them.
The universe is ending. The cars still need waxing.
