In Episode 202 of Idea Diary - Today, I ramble about what I am doing about keeping the pantry stocked, so I don’t have to freak out if there is nothing available that I want at the grocery store. Don’t buy more than you can actually eat before it expires.
I’m focusing on small packages of things like flour, rice, mayonnaise, peanut butter. I am not buying giant sizes.
I’m spacing out the time frame that I am buying things. I’m not buying things all at once. I don’t want things to expire all at once, so I’m slow rolling my purchases.
I’m looking at the expiration dates of things, and buying things that will last at least a year or two if I am not planning on eating in the next couple of weeks.
When I get home from shopping, I write the expiration date on the cans or packaging of things I purchased. I don’t want to just throw stuff in the pantry to forget that I need to eat it soon.
I am only keeping $100 or less worth of food in my freezer and fridge. If the power goes out for a long period of time, I want to be okay with losing everything. I’m focusing on stocking up on pantry meals.
CO2 might be hard to get at some point, so I am stocking on sparkling water as much as possible
Spices might be hard to get at some point, but I hate old spices. So, I am not stocking up on that, but I am stocking up on Mexican Vanilla Extract in glass bottles
Bacon prices are probably going to go to the moon! I’m keep a large stash in the freezer, and cutting up in smaller easy to grab amounts to add to recipes.
Pet Food is supposedly going to be harder and harder to get. Learn some homemade dog and cat food recipes.
Get restaurant quality clear Tupperware to hold flour, sugar, cocoa powder, pasta, rice and beans in. I think it stays fresher, but don’t buy more than you can actually use before it expires.
Half & Half might be hard to get, so I’ve stocked up on a variety of healthy pantry powdered creamers. I’m also prepared to make my own oat milk creamer with a blender
Coffee might be hard to get, so my back up is finding a dark hot teas that I like just as much as coffee. Chai Lattes are amazing!SHOW MERCH: Get Your Own Idea Diary
