"Previously agreed upon September 10th debate. He agreed to that previously. Now it appears he's backpedaling. But I'm ready, and I think the voters deserve to see the split screen that exists in this race on a debate stage. And so, I'm ready. Let's go."
Former President Donald Trump's campaign announced that they would not commit to a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris until she is officially confirmed as the Democratic nominee for president. The decision follows Harris' challenge, where she expressed her readiness for the previously scheduled September debate and highlighted the need for voters to see the differences between the two candidates clearly.
Trump's campaign stated that committing now would be premature, as Harris' nomination isn't finalized. Harris responded on social media questioning Trump's commitment to debate "any time, any place."
With President Joe Biden stepping down and endorsing Harris, the Democrats are expected to confirm her nomination by August 7.
