  • Our grief is not a sign of weak faith but of deep love.
    Psalm 91:1-16
    1Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the LORD : He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. 6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. 9 If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, 10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. 11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. 13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! 14 The LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. 15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. 16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

  • Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
    Psalm 35:1-9
    1 Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. 2 Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid. 3 Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to me, “I am your salvation.” 4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. 5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away; 6may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. 7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, 8 may ruin overtake them by surprise— may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. 9 Then My soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation.

  • Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
    Psalm 119:1-8
    1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
        who walk according to the law of the Lord.
    2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes
        and seek him with all their heart—
    3 they do no wrong
        but follow his ways.
    4 You have laid down precepts
        that are to be fully obeyed.
    5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast
        in obeying your decrees!
    6 Then I would not be put to shame
        when I consider all your commands.
    7 I will praise you with an upright heart
        as I learn your righteous laws.
    8 I will obey your decrees;
        do not utterly forsake me.

  • Your view of God makes all the difference as to how you view life.
    Psalm 73: 21-28
    21 When I became embittered
    and my innermost being was wounded,
    22 I was stupid and didn’t understand;
    I was an unthinking animal toward You.
    23 Yet I am always with You;
    You hold my right hand.
    24 You guide me with Your counsel,
    and afterward You will take me up in glory.
    25 Who do I have in heaven but You?
    And I desire nothing on earth but You.
    26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart,
    my portion forever.
    27 Those far from You will certainly perish;
    You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
    28 But as for me, God’s presence is my good.
    I have made the Lord God my refuge,
    so I can tell about all You do.

  • Grace is always appropriate. Grace is always needed.
    Psalm 119:1-14
    1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. 2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart— 3 they do no wrong but follow his ways. 4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. 5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! 6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. 7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. 8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me. 9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 Praise be to you, LORD; teach me your decrees. 13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

  • We have accomplished improbable goals (through faith) believing!
    Psalm 123:1-4
    1 I lift up my eyes to you, to you who sit enthroned in heaven.  2 As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy.  3 Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us, for we have endured no end of contempt.  4 We have endured no end of ridicule from the arrogant, of contempt from the proud.

  • Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
    Psalm 139:1-6
    1 You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.  2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.  3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.  4 Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.  5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.  6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

  • What we can give God is our praise, thanks and honor.
    Psalm 49:1-11
    1 Hear this, all you peoples;
        listen, all who live in this world,
    2 both low and high,
        rich and poor alike:
    3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom;
        the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.
    4 I will turn my ear to a proverb;
        with the harp I will expound my riddle:
    5 Why should I fear when evil days come,
        when wicked deceivers surround me—
    6 those who trust in their wealth
        and boast of their great riches?
    7 No one can redeem the life of another
        or give to God a ransom for them—
    8 the ransom for a life is costly,
        no payment is ever enough—
    9 so that they should live on forever
        and not see decay.
    10 For all can see that the wise die,
        that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
        leaving their wealth to others.
    11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever,
        their dwellings for endless generations,
        though they had named lands after themselves.

  • Wait quietly before God, for the victory comes from him.
    Psalm 62:1-12
    1 I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. 3 So many enemies against one man— all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. 4 They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude 5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. 7 My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. 8O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude 9 Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. 10 Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. 11 God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; 12 unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

  • People are not changed by others’ judgement.
    Psalm 31:14-24
    14 But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love. 17 Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead. 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous. 19 How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues. 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege. 22 In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. 23 Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full. 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
