Mike Morrow | Excerpt from: Christ Died to Bring Us to God | You know, I am really conscious that we have to be careful on this business of assurance. I'm really conscious of that. I spent a week or two from Sunday through Wednesday with a young preacher last week. This dear brother has absolutely no peace about his salvation. He has no peace about his salvation. And there have been a lot of people who've tried to deal with him, and I tried to help him, but ultimately I couldn't help him. Only God can give you peace. I could not help you. And I kept pointing him to Christ. - Mike Morrow
Bob Jennings | Open with me, please, to Hebrews chapter 7. I was thinking, just as credit card companies advertise their cards—their benefits. One card advertises there’s no annual membership fee, another card advertises you have free travel insurance, another card advertises you even get money back for the purchases you make with this card. Just as they advertise their benefits, so also, in a sense, a great deal of the New Testament and really the Bible—the whole Bible—in the same way is setting forth the blessings, the benefits, and the privileges that we have as Christians, that we have in Christ. That we might walk worthy of the calling, that we might possess our possessions, that we might not neglect, or moreover, that we might enjoy such a great salvation as we have in Christ. And it is indeed a full salvation.
Ask Pastor Tim | Are you struggling with doubts about your salvation or fearing that you've committed the unpardonable sin? You're not alone. In this discussion, we explore the topic of of assurance in the Christian faith, addressing common fears and providing biblical insights to strengthen your confidence in Christ.
Pride. It's self-focus. It's self-worship. It's believing that I deserve recognition. And what it will do is it will prevent me from going to God. It will prevent me from loving God, supremely loving others, supremely dealing with other people's sins in the right way, resolving conflict. Brethren, pride is believing lies that are not true and so detecting it.
As never before, I feel the urgent need to delve deeply into the mysteries of prayer—the secret of successful praying.
On the horizon, I see truths that, if attained by God’s grace, could in some measure shake hell and slow its destructive influence in the world and the Church today. These truths are found primarily in John 17:21-23:
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”
Tim Conway | Series: James | Humility and pride stand in stark contrast. Pride elevates the self, distorting our perception of who we are in relation to God. It fosters a sense of self-sufficiency, making us believe that we can stand on our own without divine assistance. On the other hand, humility aligns our hearts with God's truth, recognizing our dependence on Him. It's about having a proper estimation of ourselves—not thinking too highly of ourselves, nor thinking too low. Humility acknowledges God's supremacy and our need for His grace.
Bob Jennings | Article | Written on 10/5/1998 | Who can control this sex drive? The fear of disease is a small deterrent to immorality. There is only one force that can truly control lust—the power of God in the heart, a foundational element of what it means to become a Christian. That is, when Jesus enters the heart, the power and tyranny of sin is broken. True, godly men like David fell into sin, but the distinction is this—they did not live in it. Their lives were characterized by purity and victory before and after. You see a lustful man or woman? Do not be deceived. He is not a true Christian; he will not go to heaven (See 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10). The woman chaser will be cast into hell by God Himself.
One of the things that Scripture says is we are to be children of light, and children of light have a unique responsibility of exposing the darkness. We are supposed to call out the deeds of darkness that are around us, whether in the world, our workplaces, schools, or within our own circles. It is a hard thing to confront people about their sin, and you are going to find that you are not going to be liked in certain circles. But that is a responsibility that we have as children of light, to shine that light in the world, even if it costs you a relationship.
Mike Morrow | Brothers and sisters, today we delved deep into the powerful message of Ephesians 5:18, urging us not to be drunk with wine but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. We explored how the early church thrived on this divine filling, drawing strength, boldness, and unity from the Holy Ghost. From John the Baptist being filled from his mother's womb to the apostles empowered at Pentecost, Scripture is clear: the Holy Spirit is essential for true spiritual vitality.
Article | George Müller - I fell into the snare into which so many young believers fall—the reading of religious books in preference to the Scriptures. While I no longer read French and German novels, as I had formerly done to gratify my carnal mind, I failed to replace those books with the best of all books. Instead, I read tracts, missionary papers, sermons, and biographies of godly persons. Among these, I found the biographies the most beneficial, though they might have been more helpful if they had been well-selected, if I had read less of them, or if they had encouraged a deeper love for the Scriptures.
