  • Episode 7: First Wives Club
Don't get mad, get....actually we do get pretty mad in this one. What fun we had discussing the classic revenge romp, First Wives Club. CW: suicide and body image issues are raised in this episode. If you enjoy our podcast, we would love if you could leave us a review, subscribe wherever you get your podcasts, follow us on social media and tell your friends - it's the best way for others to find us!
A lot comes up for us, including our theses on Elizabeth Berkley's career, the FWC as a proto-Sex and the City, how everyone is only anywhere as long as Bette Midler wants them to be, a half-baked rant about attitudes to botox, our tuppence on the Khloe Kardashian undoctored picture kerfuffle (did you hear about that? It wasn't very widely reported on), that Heather Locklear is much more than a nipple at a funeral and can we just be a bit nicer to Cher please, I'm looking at you the mid-90s!

  • Episode 6: Clueless
We are totally buggin' to bring you this episode on Clueless, where we talk about all the Bettys, Barneys, Baldwins and Monets of Beverly Hills!
In this episode, we manage not to ruin anyone you wouldn't want ruined, AND it's something approaching a reasonable length. So we put that in the win column. We answer once and for all whether Josh and Cher's romance is problematic, discuss who the nicest boy in school is and have a kind of left field non sequitur about our mutual love of budgets. If you've enjoyed any episodes of our podcast so far, please consider leaving us a review, as well as liking, sharing, subscribing and plain old telling your friends.
Here are some fun reading materials if you're interested, which inspired our chat:
A good read about the ups and downs of the diverse character spectrum in the world of Bronson Alcott High School

Cool article giving some context about one of the films Christian and Cher watch on their special date

This article (which we found after this episode was released) makes us feel bad for call Josh a murderer for making a terrible sandwich. Paul Rudd, from the bottom of our hearts, we are very very sorry <3 <3 <3

  • Episode 5: The Princess Bride
In this episode we delve into a LOT of people's treasured childhood classic, whether you loved the film or the book first.
Let's rip the band-aid off quickly - Westley doesn't come out super well, but almost everyone else does. What else, what else, we love Fezzik and Inigo, we give Buttercup as much credit as we can, and of course we have facts. We have facts about the best poisons, spurious bellows resuscitation methods and trivia, trivia, trivia, and opinions, opinions, opinions. We've relied more heavily on Wikipedia than we would normally like, but will probably try and do better next time.
Here you can read about Methridates a bit more if you like, seeing as Jackie did more of a rush job on her facts than usual:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithridates_VI_Eupator
She can practically guarantee better facts next time, but these ones aren't half bad actually so give her a break.

  • Episode 4: When Harry Met Sally
Episode 4! The film which is responsible for our name. You can listen on all major podcast platforms any way you wish, but we recommend listening to it on a medium volume, whilst on a walk in half-sunshine, half-shade, wearing comfortable trainers, but not ones which are too clean in case you end up going through the park, and you're going to want a flat white but a third of the coffee should be decaf and the milk has to be oat milk, served extra hot, in a separate cup on the side. If they don't have oat milk then almond milk is fine but the coffee should be fully decaf and served with honey but if they have no oat milk or honey then just a black coffee, but if they don't have decaf then nothing.

  • Episode 2: Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back
Hello and welcome back! We are so glad you came back. This week we continue our deep dive into the holiest of trilogies with the Empire Strikes Back, the second instalment in the original set of Star Wars movies. This is our episode 2, so we are still a little baby newbie podcast. We will drop new epsiodes every two weeks on a Wednesday, meaning Empire has arrived on February 17th, and that we will conclude this dive into Star Wars on March 3rd with a discussion about Return of the Jedi. After that we will be leaving a galaxy far far away and moving onto other content, but the Force will be with us, always.
Finally, in this episode we touch on some issues around racism and representation in film. We have a bit of a chat about how white the Star Wars universe has been up until this point and do our best with the vocabulary we have to address what needs to be done better. However, if two neurotic, white, middle class women clumsily tying themselves in knots trying not to be racist isn't enough for you, and it shouldn't be, see below for a couple of suggestions for other podcasts which are better at talking about racism than we are. As our podcast grows, so do we - we commit to doing better, being better, recognising and challenging our own complicity in matters of inequality, injustice and privilege, and calling out oppressive, white supremacist bullshit whenever we see it. As Yoda says, "Do or do not, there is no try". Thank you for listening!
Specific podcast episodes which cover these issues better than us are:
    - Black Men Can't Jump (In Hollywood) - specifically their episodes on The Force Awakens (15 December 2015) AND on The Last Jedi (23 September 2019);
    - Buffering the Vampire Slayer - Invisi-BIPOC with Alba Daza and Mackenzie MacDade (20 January 2021). Also, If you visit their website at bufferingthevampireslayer.com you will find some excellent anti-racism reading and resources.
