Now, approaching the 30 year anniversary, The East and West of Germany are approaching another crossroads. Election results are swinging left and right and a long thought dead ideology is making a global comeback. What lies ahead for Deutschland??

HODJA: 

Claudius Abesodo Gamiel Winston King Pratt aka Gamiel Stone hails from New York City. His first recording was made in an apartment on the NYC’s Lower East Side, with Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Ray Greene legendary NYCHC drummer.

Matthias Arbo Klein has been drumming in over 20 years. He learned by listening and playing to everything that caught his attention. His biggest influence was his teacher Mr. Jerry Granelli, drummer with The Grateful Dead, Charlie Haiden and Ornette Coleman.

Tenboi Levinson is a musician, composer and producer from Copenhagen, Denmark, who has been playing guitar since the late 70’s. Funk, punk, jazz, new wave, blues, rock n’roll, whatever… A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he works as a producer/musician with Danish artists Caroline Henderson, Steen Jorgensen and Jimmy Jorgensen. 

Boi met Claudius and Matthias when producing an album with Reverend Shine Snake Oil Co., He later hired and toured with the drummer Matthias where they found common pleasure and ease in playing together. One night while hanging out at his personal studio in Christiania “Chimney Top Roof Recording” Boi and Claudius wrote some sketches that would later turn into songs for their first collaboration and “HODJA” the band was born.

The Play "Eurydice" by Sarah Ruhl is a retelling of the tragic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as told from the oft unexplored perspective of the title character herself. It was the season opener for Leipzig's English language production company, English Theatre Leipzig, and SOLD OUT all three shows of the opening weekend! Director Julia Kragh, Assistant Director (also our co-host!) Justin as well as many members of the cast, including the musical accompanist, Parwaneh join Matthew as they look back on the process that brought the group to a successful opening weekend!

We are officially back in action following the summer tour photography assignment following the American band Masked Intruder around on their EU Tour! For the next few episodes, I'll be joined by Intruder Green as we wax nostalgic about events and shows on the tour run and we will also include some interviews we captured out in the field along the way! This episode we move thru the UK and wrap up with a chat with PEARS!

PEARS: The story of PEARS is not exactly an incredibly long one: The hardcore punk band came together just over a year ago, in early 2014, after its members had kicked around the New Orleans punk scene for long enough before finally wising up and realizing they were meant for each other. However, it is a story that is remarkably fast-paced: The band’s first demo, …In Diapers, was released days after their first practice. The band’s 10-song debut album, the absolutely electrifying Go To Prison, was written over the course of 14 hours and recorded a mere five weeks after the band formed. Really, there’s no way PEARS should be as good as they are—something frontman Zach Quinn fully realizes. “The big secret is that me and a couple of the guys were in a band called the Lollies for a few years,” Quinn says. “That band broke up, we took some time away from each other and then just tried to do it right this time. I guess we really kind of lucked out. We didn’t make the same mistakes—the same mistakes being really too fuckin’ drunk to do anything.”

Before taking off completely on my summer break, I managed to have a much anticipated conversation with the local independent bike courier union, Fulmo.cc. Together we discuss issues that can easily be spotted in Leipzig's bike community and we discuss some simple things that can be done on all sides to improve the culture as the wave of new growth in the city arrives.
