Illegal Curve Hockey: Winnipeg Jets

With the NHL announcing that the statistical history of the Winnipeg Jets will include both iterations of the franchise, it made a lot of sense to talk to top centre Mark Scheifele who is chasing Dale Hawerchuk (22 points to tie him for franchise points, seven goals to tie his goals record) and more. He also discussed special teams, helping the young guys and more.

Big topic of conversation today was the merging of the Jets 1.0 and 2.0 records which we discussed with Josh Morrissey who joked he's lost six records with this move. He also spoke about special teams and more.

As his Jets team gets set to take on the Oilers tonight to conclude the home portion of exhibition games during pre-season, we heard from Jets head coach Scott Arniel. He spoke about Adam Lowry, Brad Lambert, Danny Zhilkin, the upgrades to the players room and much more.

There's a big opportunity for Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin who spoke about putting on 10 lbs this summer as he continues to fight for an NHL roster spot. He discussed his preparation, fighting for this opportunity with fellow Moose teammates, the investment the team made in upgrading the players facilities and more.

Jets captain Adam Lowry spoke today from the fancy new digs of the Winnipeg dressing room as he gets set for his first exhibition of the pre-season. He spoke about his new look like, what a successful night for them looks like, using the speed on the wings and more.

Following his team's return from Edmonton last night where their young prospect filled group lost 5-2 they were back on the ice in Winnipeg as they get set for a back-to-back against the Avalanche and Oilers this week starting on Monday night.

He spoke about the lines, what he's expecting from a more veteran group next game, guys are picking up on the systems, impact of the time change (or lack thereof) on scheduling, the steps Morgan Barron continues to take, improving on secondary scoring, what made Stuart Skinner a good playoff goalie, having a less compressed schedule and ending pre-season with some team building.

Jets forward Morgan Barron spoke about skate at hfac. He was asked if he's come back with a "chip on his shoulder" after last season's result, continuing the momentum after he had best individual season of his career, more competition for spots this season, importance of team building following end of pre-season and ahead of the regular season, benefit of a more spread out schedule, what he's seen from the Jets captain, and more.

Following a skate this morning at hfac, we hear from Jets defenceman Dylan Samberg spoke about what he did to make himself better during the summer, details going into players "holding the line", what he's liked about Mario Ferraro joining the group, the team having a solid structure/system, does he watch a lot of playoff hockey, impact by the Manitoba time change on his family in Minnesota and he and Neal Pionk getting back to their shutdown best.

Three days into training camp and there are lots of storylines for us to cover including the Jets suspension of Connor Hellebuyck, mixing of the lines, the opportunity for Viggo Björck, Cole Perfetti joining 55/81 and much more.
