Illinois Valley Podcast

Special Edition...!

This is a special edition of the Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast. This week we welcome Johnny Derango to the recording booth. Johnny is from the Illinois Valley, but he moved on to pursue the world of film making. After college Johnny went off to Hollywood and from there he immediately began an exciting career. Most recently, he was both a Producer and Director of Photography for the film, Lost on Purpose.

What makes this episode special is the urgency of the show. To support “Lost on Purpose,” Johnny is promoting a kickstarter that ends on May 19th. The kickstarter will allow them to have several theatrical releases, plus distribute via Netflix, Hulu, DVD, and Blue Ray. We doing our part to support his effort and get the word out about the movie.

April showers brought plenty of flowers, but unfortunately they also brought record breaking flood levels to the Illinois Valley. This week on the show we talk all about the floods and the effects on the area. The show is not all serious though, as we give updates on John and Clayton’s home run battle (that no one cares about), followed by our usual apps, podcasts, and Tweets of the Week.

When you think of Skydive Chicago, what do you think of? Do you think of the fact that right here in the Illinois Valley we have one of the biggest skydiving locations in the nation? Do you think of their amazing facility, with camping, dining, disc golf, and swimming? How about that they break world records year after year with massive multi-jumper vertical formations?

Or are you like so many locals who only think of an outdated stigma?

This week we review the facilities statistics, plus we welcome a very special guest. On the show, is a world record holding professional skydiver who also happens to be the owner of Skydive Chicago, Rook Nelson. We talk to Rook about the past, present, and future of the business. It was a wonderful interview and we hope you enjoy it. After the big interview, we do our Tweets of the Week plus a review of our latest podcast listening.

And since we forgot to plug Rook’s online handles during the show, here they are…

This week we dive into the Rock Island Clean Line project eyeing the Illinois Valley. The project aims to bring a high voltage direct current line through the area but no direct impact to the area. We are all over this topic along with some discussion on the solar activity coming. All that and then our Tweets of the Week. Rock on.

We are rocking and a rolling! This week John and Clayton hit all sorts of stuff. Things start out with John’s Dreamwave Wrestling report featuring Dustin Rhodes, aka Goldust. Then the show takes a turn to discuss the story that has swept the nation - the LP football debacle.

This week John and Clayton cruise through a bunch of local Illinois Valley topics. First thing’s first, we gotta send out some love for the awesome response due to the News Tribune article.  A big thanks goes out to the NewsTrib and all the people that gave us some new Likes and Follows. After talking about the article, we talk local podcasts, and discuss another podcast that popped onto our radars, CandidRadio, based out of LaSalle.

After that, we react to the recent Lipton Building Fire in Streator, IL. Then for the first time ever, we play an mp3 email question about the new natural gas filling station in LaSalle, IL. We spend some time discussing natural gas and the impact on the area.

Then John does some venting on the idea of live streaming Peru council meetings. After that  we tackle a huge list of Tweets of the Week. Finally, the usual apps and podcasts to finish things off. Rock on.

In addition to the hyperlinks above, here are some of the other websites we referenced in the show: NewsTribune Story on Natural Gas Filling Station, 4 Reasons Natural Gas is Cheap, How Natural Gas Cars Work, and the Sky diving Record Story.
