  • Episode 38 - Orange Juno, A Probiotic Wonder

Some crazy stuff is going on because John and Clayton have managed to land another guest! This week the guys welcome Lewis to the show to tell everyone about the lost art of lacto fermentation. In addition to Lewis’ Orange Juno product (available at Foothill Organics), the discussion dives into probiotics, iodine, enzymes, and buttermilk.

Before Lewis jumped on, John and Clayton break the news (now old news) about the NewsTribune article on local podcasting featuring some quotes from yours truly. A big thanks goes out to the News Tribune, plus @NT_LaSalle (Mr. Baker) for sitting down with us to talk about podcasting. Speaking of local podcasting, the guys discovered some local WOW podcasts, the Twizzcast and Something Suggestive.

The guys also give some love to the DePue Boat races, plus our favorite podcasts and the Tweets of the Week! Rock on.

  • Episode 37 - Ravishing Rick (not Ric)

The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast, Episode 37 is alive and taking over the web. Look out. After another summer recording slump, John and Clayton bounce back with one of the longest shows ever (sorry about that). So many things this week, but the most important of all is this show includes both a guest and some local Illinois Valley music.

We send a big thanks to Ric Soens of The Ric Soens Band who allowed us to play one of his songs on our show. Check it out around the 15 minute mark. For more on Ric’s music, check out his stuff on iTunes, Spotify, or head over to his Reverbnation page (link). (he is also on Amazon and YouTube) (15:00)

Before we played some local music, the show hit up a couple quick local events including a talk on the summer heat wave, some 4th of July fireworks talk, and the IV Flyers event.  (00:00 – 15:00)

After that, for only the third time ever, we had a guest! This week, Nick (@revlo1983) from the Illinois Valley Gaming Society (@IVGamingSociety) joined us in the booth to talk about a bunch of nerdy things. Nick gave us a tutorial on Magic the Gathering, plus an update from a recent local movie premier in Princeton, IL – Power by Adam Agushi. He also gave us some background on the IV Gamers new podcast, The Nerdy Directive, produced by Simply Wicked Radio. Plenty of nerdy rambling to fill in the cracks, plus some Dreamwave Wrestling talk which eventually spilled into a discussion of Ravishing Rick Rude’s abs. A big thanks to Nick for joining us! (19:00 – 57:00)

After a little pickleball talk, the final chunk of the show gets back to normal with our favorite segment, the ReTweets of the Week! This included some Disc Golf talk, Cubs baseball, and Beer. The show takes a little turn with some words for a new local Illinois Valley Twitter hit (IV Jokes), and finally our usual apps and podcasts. (58:00 – End)

    Yeah, it’s a long one…

  • Episode 36 - We Know Nothing, Sorry.

After taking some time off due to the warm weather, John and Clayton pull together a doozy this week. Thanks to the IVGS, the show starts with the big win from a local Tonica, IL dude in an MTG tournament. Clayton shares his dissatisfaction with the change to the intro music, John explains the benefits and problems with unplugging from the web, and some conspiracy theory talk. The guys bring back a discussion on the timeless classic "Ottawa: Serious Fun" since they are approaching 70,000 hits, plus a preview for an upcoming alternative food interview. The show finishes off with a general overview of the Illinois Valley Radio Control Flyers group, a bunch of follow up topics, pay to swear, and driver etiquette. And how could we forget, this week's Retweet of the Week went out to @WndyCityEsquire with an honorable mention to @NT_PutnamCounty & @BobbyBigWheel. Rock on.

  • Episode 35 - Help Us Expose Ourselves (on iTunes)

The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is here again to rock your world. Well, not really. This week we dive deep into the world of Twitter. Before that, we cover some of our usual stuff including Dreamwave Wrestling and the LaSalle Speedway, which by the way, was it just us or is there a little friction between those to local companies? The juicy stuff doesn't end there as John gives his report on the brawl at the LaSalle Speedway's big Lucas Oil Event. Next the guys talk about the new celebrity to come to the Peru, IL school system, and we round things out with a follow up on the Buffalo Rock Shooting Range, in which Clayton shares something that has bothered him ever since Episode 34 aired. Then we jump into the world of Twitter with some shout outs to various people, and our frustrations and comments regarding the local Illinois Valley Twitter scene. Next we talk about the new group in Peru, IL - - The Illinois Valley Gaming Society (@IVGamingSociety). We finish up the Twitter talk with our Retweet of the Week, coming from the Ottawa Times' very own @TT_jtpedelty. The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is rocking, again. In the first fifteen this week John and Clayton talk about the big wedding, a shout out to Words from Nerds, some random podcast stuff, and our usual Dreamwave and IV Vixen talk. Then things get serious with our inability to stop talking about the Pay to Hike campaign, which leads to the Buffalo Rock Shooting Park. In the next fifteen we finish out the Gun Show and talk about the Emerald Ash Borer. Things settle down with some pool discussion, including both a Virginia Graeme Baker Pool And Spa Safety Act follow up and the Peru pool crash. • Episode 33 - Racing, Rastling, and some Ruffled Feathers

The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast, Episode 33 is here to explode your senses. Ok, not really. This week John struggles to talk since he is still in a bit of a sleep/driving coma thing. As usual, Clayton holds things together as the two have plenty to discuss. The week of this particular podcast is especially exciting because it is the opening weekend for the LaSalle Speedway racing season. The guys give some history on the race track, and John shares his own excitement for the new season. Also, the podcast comes out days ahead of the latest and greatest Dreamwave Wrestling event. A little preview is given but hopefully some more in depth info will follow on the next episode. The show takes a bit of a turn at this point. Clayton expresses his dislike for Kid Rock, the big summer concert musician at the Peru IL Airport. Then the two tackle an interesting question that people around Peru, IL and Ladd, IL may be asking themselves..."Do the stars seem brighter these days...?" After that the guys rattle some cages with their view point on the State of Illinois' "pay to hike" movement. Finally the show rounds out with a discussion on disk golf (which John has a really hard time calling it) and some of the usual stuff on podcasts, apps, and the web. Check 'er out!

  • Episode 32 - Action News Five

The Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is here to rock the internet radio world. This week John and Clayton hammer through a ton of IV related stuff. Let's see, there is prostitution, crack head behavior, cock fighting and local home invasion altercations, just to name a few. Other topics (that are a little more normal) include the continuing Starved Rock sand mine debate, the IVCC tuition increase, Dreamwave wrestling, and the Illinois State Park passport idea. Despite all this stuff, some how we still managed to cover our usual podcast and app topics, plus a shout out to an Illinois Valley favorite...fried food. Rock on!

  • Episode 31 - Some Serious Stuff, No Really

This week's Illinois Valley Alternative Podcast is a little odd because we don't really talk about the Illinois Valley. Instead, the main topic is on the serious side. After listening to the SYSK podcast on Human Trafficking (present day slavery), John and Clayton felt compelled to paraphrase it. Scary stuff.

It’s not all serious though since the guys chat about the Super Bowl, Dreamwave wrestling, Oglesby SOS Trivia Night, alcohol (surprise surprise), and dreams. Plus the usual stuff to fill in the cracks. Rock on.

  • Episode 30 - Sand, Fires, and Dot Dot Dot

The podcast is out of the holiday slump and back in action. This week John and Clayton throw in their two cents on some of the major issues of the Illinois Valley, including the Starved Rock Sand Mine plus the Peru Westclox fire. There is also a little follow up from the blogger episode and some venting on area hockey games. The show finishes off with the usual podcasts and apps, plus we find out that you can hire your own videogame bodyguard. Plenty more mixed into the cracks. Rock on.

  • Episode 29 - Frederick W. Matthiessen - IV All-Stars 1B

This week the IV Alternative Podcast focuses on a major historical figure within the Illinois Valley - Frederick William Matthiessen. Around the area, the man's name is best associated with the natural wonders of Matthiessen State Park, just a jog away from Starved Rock State Park. While this is certainly no small attribution, many don't know just how important the man was to the area.

Also this week we talk about some more current issues of the day including the hot debates in Utica. We give our run down on the IVAR trivia night event, plus we paid a visit to O-nett Gaming. We have our usual segments and some fun rambling too. Rock on.
