  • 43. The Power and Choices Financial Planning Gives You During Family Emergencies

The Power and Choices Financial Planning Gives You During Family Emergencies.

In this episode, Adina talks about the options and choices you can have during family emergencies when you have a financial plan.

Early in their financial journey, her and her husband Mauricio had to miss out on important family moments good and bad because they could not afford to buy flights to Ecuador.

Fast forward 8 years later, when a family emergency just came up money did not have to get in the way. There was no question about what to do. This is the power a financial plan can you give you and why building wealth is about doing what's best for your family.

It was only an option for Adina and Mau to bring Mau’s parents here from Ecuador to get vaccinated because of their financial planning.

This was a choice they would not have had 8 years ago when they lived paycheck to paycheck with no emergency savings.

Building financial stability allows you to have choices during emergencies so you don’t have to choose between money and your family. So that you have a choice in the first place.

More people need to be able to make choices like this right now to protect their loved ones. Whether it be the harsh immigration laws separating families, financial instability, or lack of information about financial planning, having financial stability gives you more options to choose from when you respond.

At Immigrant Finance, we want to see every immigrant family have options and choices for their families.

If you don’t have an emergency fund, start saving for one today.

You can’t control what will happen in life, but you can control whether you are financially prepared for whatever comes.

  • 42. What It Feels Like Opening Your First Investment Accounts

Listen to Immigrant Finance Podcast episode #42 about "What It Feels Like Opening Your First Investment Accounts".

Immigrant Finance had 2 students open their first investment accounts this week who had tried for years and couldn't. They were so frustrated.

One said she was really nervous. It made her feel down because everyone else could open Investment accounts, but not her because of her immigrant status.

3 important items we want you to take away from this episode are:

    1. Don't give up and don't let others tell you can't invest because you are an immigrant. This just isn't true.
    2. Believe in yourself. The hard part is NOT opening the account, it is actually getting to the point that you decide you deserve to be an investor. You do deserve to be an investor.
    3. Reach out for your support! We are here to help.
    4. If you are struggling to get started with investing, you can find what you need to get it done and get the support from Immigrant Finance School. Apply at http://immigrantfinanceschool.com/

    5. 41. Kevin Muñoz of @Latinamericaneo On Building Financial Power By Investing As An Immigrant

Listen to Immigrant Finance Podcast episode #41 with our special guest Kevin Muñoz of @Latinamericaneo. He speaks On Building Financial Power By Investing As An Immigrant.

We discuss Kevin's immigration story, the meaning of buying a home for immigrants, becoming the first investor in your family, and helping others in your family and community get started with investing by being the example and helping them feel more confident.

We also talk about starting an online presence to help lift up others and give back and the tremendous financial buying power that Latino immigrants have. Kevin does a great job explaining the potential of that power if more immigrants start investing and building wealth. Yes, YOU can invest!!!

Kevin is a 24-year-old proud DACA recipient. Born in Guatemala. He and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 2002. In search of work, they hopped around states like California and Colorado until they finally made the beautiful garden state of New Jersey their home. His parents worked hard to provide a life for his sister and Kevin and they wish they had. It was thanks to their numerous sacrifices that they were able to get a great education. They quickly realized the lack of resources for immigrants like themselves when they applied for colleges. Kevin created LEO to better educate a community unable to access financial advice and educational resources, Both of which are common roadblocks in the Hispanic community to purchasing and preserving assets as well as building wealth.

    6. 40. Social Entrepreneurship: Creating an Online Business That Helps Others

Listen to Immigrant Finance Podcast episode 40 on how to start an online business that helps others and changes the world.

Wanting to make more money and build wealth does not make you a selfish or greedy person. It takes massive resources to make massive change. You can create a business that creates value, and thus resources, that is focused on helping others and making the world a better place. This is social entrepreneurship -- creating a social impact business from a place of service.

Immigrant families are needed more than ever in the social entrepreneurship space.

Immigrants know how to be resourceful and not give up despite challenges.

Immigrants know how to solve problems.

Immigrants know how to rebuild when the structures as we know them have fallen down, how to innovate, and create new possibilities that can help others.

    7. 39. There's No Competition in Online Business - Why You Shouldn't Compare Yourself to Others

Listen to Immigrant Finance Podcast episode 39 and how there's no competition in online business and why you shouldn't compare yourself to others.

There is no competition in online business because everyone has their unique perspectives and experiences to share that cannot be replaced.

Authentic online businesses are just a reflection of what that person is. They are a person's ideas, innovations, and creativity - oftentimes a reflection of a person's soul purpose.

What you’re meant to share with the world should be supported by others.

The only person you should compete with is the business owner you want to become.

Our new digital economy is no longer about what degrees you have, or where you're from, but rather what value you can share from your life experiences.

We help immigrant families build generational wealth through financial education and group coaching on money management and investing, online business development, and community support.

    8. 38. Responding From The Center of the Hurricane Rather Than Reacting To The Storm

Listen to Immigrant Finance Podcast episode 38 about money mindset and how building wealth is like meditation — learning to respond from the center of the hurricane rather than reacting from the storm when challenges in life happen.

It's about building that center with a plan and strategies. That way, you can return to that stability when crazy hurricanes and storms in life happen, rather than get caught up and whisked away in the storm with no control.

When you have more of a financial plan and can start building financial stability, for example with an emergency fund, you can start making better financial decisions.

If you do meditation let us know how that has helped your money mindset.

What topics specifically do you want to learn about with money mindset, abundance, spirituality, and the connection with finances?

    9. 37. Jen, DACA Girl Saving Dollas on Finances for DACA Recipients
Listen to this episode with Jen from @Dacagirlsavingdollas, who is in the unique financial circumstances of someone with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
DACA holders, also known as "Dreamers", are people who are undocumented and have a form of temporary deferral of deportation. DACA does not provide citizenship, a green card, or any permanent immigration status. DACA holders are people who have been brought to the U.S. as children, have lived in the U.S. for many years, and meet certain educational and other strict requirements.
Developed by the Obama Administration, the DACA program provides people with a work permit, which must be renewed periodically, as well as a social security number. As Jen describes, access to a work permit and social security number can be life-changing in terms of having access to financial opportunities including college and job opportunities.
DACA holders face unique financial burdens. There are high fees associated with DACA applications and renewal applications that DACA recipients must save for, adding a financial burden on top of the high costs of immigration lawyer fees and the costs with putting the application together.
Jen is a DACA recipient navigating finances as an undocumented person. She aims to build generational wealth despite her immigration status, showcasing her journey and sharing the stories of others.
