Illuminating the Shadow Meditation: Deeply Rooted in the Safety of the Sense of Yourself
Hey there, friends! Welcome and thank your for joining me in this bonus episode of Illuminating the Shadow. In this bonus mediation episode, I hope to really facilitate a safe and nurturing space that supports you in your own personal journeys in self-awareness, radical self-acceptance and self-worth, as we work to cultivate a deeper sense of connection to ourselves, through this guided meditation practice. May we all grow deeply rooted in the safety of the sense of ourselves, and more deeply grounded in belonging. Enjoy!

Why aren’t we taught that we are enough on our own? Why aren’t we taught that we don’t have to be anything other than ourselves? Why do we constantly undermine our own feelings, bodily sensations and interpretations of those experiences, in favor of what others tell us? Why aren’t we taught that our experiences are valid, even when they don’t line up with that of those around you? Why aren’t we taught that our feelings, our emotions and our emotional responses are not only valid, but they are also vital messengers and we SHOULD be listening to them? Why aren’t we taught that we are enough, or that we are worthy on our own? That we rightfully deserve to take up space, to be ourselves, to be strong in our conviction and in our integrity and to proudly embrace our whole selves. Because, on a most basic level, it is our human right to EXIST and do so as we see fit. Why don’t we talk about these things openly? Well, in this episode of Illuminating the Shadow, we will be doing just that. We will be diving in deep to explore some of themes in as we shine a gentle light of awareness onto our own beliefs that we hold about ourselves, our sense of self-worth, and how we perceive and understand our place in in this world. As we illuminate the shadow together today, we will be shining a gentle light of awareness onto our own experiences and belief structures as we seek out to better understand, accept and embrace ourselves in a more honest and whole-hearted manner, well then we can then work to cultivate an unwavering sense of belonging, acceptance and unconditional self-worth.

Are you afraid of stirring the pot? Does the fear of potential confrontation keep you from standing up for yourself? Do you find yourself shrinking into silence, making yourself malleable, or adjusting to the comfort levels of those around you? Perhaps in your efforts to be so accommodating to those around you, you begin to lose sight of yourself and your own truth. Perhaps, we lose parts of ourselves along the way, while attempting to adhere to the limiting belief structures we formed around being what we thought were expected of us. Maybe you find yourself spread thin and you’re tired of trying to be what everyone expects of you. Maybe we aren’t meant to be comfortable for everyone. Maybe we aren’t meant to liked or appreciated by everyone. And maybe that’s okay. Maybe in our pursuits of trying to be likeable, relatable, or trying to fit in, we’ve compromised parts of ourselves or our values that we need to take back and RECLAIM.
In this episode of Illuminating the Shadow, we will be shining a gentle light of awareness into some of those dark and shadowy corners of our own personal experience, as we dive in deep to explore how some our own habits and beliefs around self-worth are demonstrated in some of these behavior patterns and tendencies we hold.

Welcome and thank you for joining me in this (bonus) episode of Illuminating the Shadow, with your host and guide Britt Hampton.
In this episode of Illuminating the Shadow, we’ll be building upon the basis that we explored in Episode 3, and we will be discussing a bit more in depth: what a sankalpa is, the different ways we can use a sankalpa: distinguishing between both traditional & non-traditional means of usage, and I’ll be guiding you through an exercise that will set a working foundation for you to discover your own sankalpa; and I’ll even be offering you up a few temporary options for “working sankalpas” to better support you in your own efforts towards cultivating your very own sankalpa, in your own time and as you’re ready. So it is my intention, that no matter where you are on your journey, that I can meet you there and offer you something of value, something of service from this experience.

Welcome to Illuminating the Shadow. I’m Britt Hampton, your host and guide and in this episode I will be very much stepping into my own fear and discomfort as I face my own fears and dive deep into the very darkness, that I’ve been encouraging you to shine a gentle light of awareness upon. So in this episode, I’m going to speak quite a bit more candidly about my own personal experience. This is both scary and vulnerable or me. But I feel like since I am asking you all to be brave and vulnerable in doing this hard work, then I must be brave and vulnerable, myself in modeling it for you. So I’m going to be doing the scary, hard work right here in this episode, right alongside you. That discomfort I spoke about in Episode 2, those growing pains & discomfort that I encouraged you to try to re-frame, or to look at as “growing pains”, as a natural and innate part of the growth process.... Well in this episode, I will be very much stepping into that space of personal discomfort myself.

How many times have we set “resolutions” or goals that are:
I am going to “I’m going to eat healthier in 2022”. “I am going to love
myself more.” “I’m going to meditate
more.” “I’m going to start working out.”….
Maybe you started off strong in the pursuit of a new goal or in the
pursuit of your new year resolution. And then inexplicably life happens! Our
attention is drawn elsewhere and we lose our momentum” or we “procrastinate to
the point of achieving minimal results, then we fall into our old patterns of
self-pity or disappointment” or “we believe that in some way we dropped the
ball, missed the mark, or otherwise fallen short of some self-perceived
milestone we had in our heads” and so we tell ourselves “there’s always next
year” or that we can try again later. And maybe you fall somewhere in between…
Since we find ourselves at the beginning of this new year,
at the beginning of a new cycle, AND at the beginning of our journey together,
I think it’s really important, to lay a solid foundation for our time together.
Welcome back to Illuminating the Shadow with your host and guide Britt Hampton.
So in this upcoming episode of Illuminating the Shadow, we will be discussing… some
habits and tools to support us in facilitating the change that we desire in our
lives.; I’ll also be speaking a bit about the inevitatable obstacles and
challenges that come up naturally through the process of change presenting as
resistance or growing pains and how we identify that resistance, contientiously
re-frame it and gently work our ways through it. In this episode, I will also
be giving you a number of tools and techniques that you can utilize (in your
own time) to help you facilitate a strong basis so that you can EFFECTIVELY
MEET your goals with INTENTION.

BONUS EPISODE: Guided Meditation & Visualization Exercise. Enjoy!
True beauty and magic does exist! However, it is often found in the darkest, and most seemingly unexpected of places. To understand this completely, I had to journey into my own personal underworld and experience the true dark nights of the soul. I sat in the discomfort and the helplessness of depression and grief, before undergoing a baptism of fire and I eventually came out on the other side. Illuminating the Shadow seeks out to explore just how to uncover the buried treasures in your own life and story, by helping you to shine a light of awareness into those dark and unseen corners.

llluminating the Shadow gently invites you to draw the darkness of the shadow out to bask in the light of awareness and acceptance. There is magical in the mundane and there is sacredness in the struggle and Illuminating the Shadow is intended to show you how to draw it out by lighting the way, because navigating our own depths and darkness and shadow selves is sacred work and you don’t have to walk through this darkness alone, as I did.
As we illuminate the shadows together, I invite you to explore the stories and narratives we tell ourselves, to gently re-examine the beliefs that we hold tightly to, to explore the patterns and the roots of these patterns we continue to repeat. May we learn to lovingly and wholeheartedly embrace ALL of ourselves as we nurture our inner child, address our deep wounds and traumas and act to cultivate and draw forth the wounded healer in all of us.
As we illuminate our shadows, we can then draw out the medicine in ourselves and from our experiences and use that sacred medicine as an ointment to heal each other and this world. It is my most heartfelt intention, to aid you in this journey of self-rediscovery and radical self-acceptance, by offering you what I have learned in my own experiences in navigating through these dark and shadowy places.
There is power in your voice and there is medicine in your story.
