That "dumpster fire" thought is an example of a cognitive distortion; a negative train of thought that is not rooted in reality.
Our minds love to use these cognitive distortions to "try" to keep us safe. I say "try" because most of the fears it's keeping at bay are a mask for desire. Yep, your fear is a mask for desire. Unless you have a free of snakes, I don't trust anything that moves in an S shape.
