The new opposition leader Angus Taylor has signalled he will pursue a stricter immigration policy and a return to "Australian values" in his first pitch to voters.

Meanwhile on economic policies, he has already ruled out any possible changes to the capital gains tax discount for property investors.

The federal government is currently considering winding back the concession in the upcoming May budget.
