In the eleventh week of our Hermeneutics study Pastor LeeWood introduces us to the Gospel genre. LeeWood begins by describing the general characteristics of gospels, and then defends why we need four Gospel accounts: because each evangelist had a specific audience and goal in mind when he authored his account. The big takeaway from this week's session though was the practical exercise that Lee led everyone through.

In the 10th week of our study in How To Read Your Bible For All It's Worth we are treated to hearing Dr. Robert Matz teach on the topic of prophetic literature. Dr. Matz holds a Ph.D. in theology and apologetics from Liberty University and currently serves as the President of Hannibal LaGrange University. In this week's session Dr. Matz discusses the general characteristics of prophetic literature and then elaborates on these characteristics by exploring Jonah and Hosea.

In the ninth week of our Hermeneutics study Lee Woodmansee walks us through how to interpret the book of Proverbs. By combining the previous week's content (Wisdom Literature and Poetry) Pastor LeeWood explores how to discover the value and beauty of the book of Proverbs. LeeWood first describes the structure of the book of Proverbs, then gives some helpful descriptions about what proverbs are and are not. If you take away nothing else from this time, remember this: proverbs are about probabilities, they are not promises.

In week 8 of our hermeneutics study Pastor Lee Woodmansee walks us through Biblical Poetry. LeeWood talks about the general characteristics of poetry, its uses in our lives, and the building blocks of parallelism within Hebrew poetry. All of this culminates in an examination of Psalm 23as we combined all that we learned about poetry to see the depth of this psalm.

In the seventh week of our Hermeneutics study Lee Woodmansee leads us through our exploration of Wisdom Literature. By discussing the general characteristics of the genre, some helpful guidelines for how to interpret them, and using Job as an example that demonstrates the genre's uses we will be better equipped to live a well lived life.

In Week 6 of our Hermeneutics series Lee Woodmansee begins to discuss individual genres of biblical literature. The first genre discussed is the one that is most prevalent in the Scriptures: narrative. Lee will cover four main things concerning narrative literature: 1) general characteristics of the genre, 2) a discussion of prescriptive and descriptive texts, 3) seven general guidelines or tips for reading narratives, and finally 4) an examination of Ruth where we apply our lessons learned thus far.

In the fifth installment of our hermeneutics study Lee Woodmansee begins to address the wildly important topic of Bible application. The three main topics that are covered are 1) the metanarrative of Scripture, 2) the importance of applying the Bible. and 3) what are genres and what to do with them.

In our fourth week of our Hermeneutics Study Lee Woodmansee begins to discuss three key elements that will set us up for the rest of the study: 1) the importance of right interpretation, 2) who is responsible for right interpretation, and 3) the role of the Holy Spirit in interpretation. The goal for this session is to begin to describe a process that all Christians innately do, and then begin to surround this process with helpful vocabulary.

In our third week of our study in Hermeneutics we want to move from the theoretical realm of our discussion into a more practical arena. In this session we discuss 1) inerrancy and infallibility 2) how biblical manuscripts were transmitted and 3) how biblical manuscripts are translated. A Q&A session follows caps off our time where we discuss translations and what to do with the King James Version.

In week 2 of our series on How To Read The Bible For All It's Worth Pastor LeeWood begins a 2 part look at the Bible's formation and organization. Basic details about the number of authors and books will be presented along with the more important correlation between these facts and core convictions we hold about the Bible. The three core convictions we have about the Bible are: 1) The Bible is about Jesus Christ 2) The Bible is a unified story and 3) through the Bible we come to know Jesus in all his glory. A brief look a the ancient manuscripts and a discussion of canonization are also used to relate to how we can trust the Bible, and hold to these three core convictions.
